I guess. I just prefer hugh maintenance, loving pets or no maintenance, no pets.

Snakes interact, and they're really not much effort. Just cool to look at, plus it was a means for us to get over our fear. Sure, he's not going to respond to much more than your body heat and a mouse, but that also means he's not going to require much. My dogs are almost like having two more kids.

frick that. I'll take my Staffordshire terrier and wolf hybrid over any snake.

What seemed to be true in college for most people, getting a snake was an outward signal of someone going through a phase or having issues. Normal people didn't relish owning a pet needing to be fed other live pets. As they neared graduation or moving away from school, the snakes were passed on to other people going through a phase.
I have known several naturalists/outdoors types that kept snakes, but they also might be the type to have a raccoon or a hawk.

I have to disagree with this. Had a couple buddies in college that had snakes and it was amazing how many girls wanted to hold it when they found out they were friendly. It also is a way for alit of people to get over this preconceived notion that snakes are slimy aggressive animals.
As far as feeding live food, thats extremely dangerous to the snake. We feed our boa thawed out frozen rats, especially now that he eats large rats. The last thing Id ever want is for a rat to scratch or gouge my snake out of self defense. Alot of people dont know that a snakes vision is horrible and they pretty much just rely on their sense of smell to get their prey. So itd be very easy for a mouse or rat to scratch the hell out of him.

Those guys sound more like the security be group I mentioned. They'd take their snakes to schools or other groups.
I just remember one too many who thought they were edgy and cool feeding live hamsters some kid would get as a pet.

When I was in junior high, a girl brought her pet snake in to our LA history class (because the snake was indigenous to LA). Anyway, it had eaten sometime recently, and there was a noticeable bump in its body. Somebody squeezed the bump, and the snake ended up throwing up a hairless rat that had been digesting for a couple of days on the desk in front of me. The smell was horrible, and the classroom was cleared rather quickky. That is my one and only interaction with a pet snake. I've never desired anything more.

Okay, I'll take the bait...
Your being afraid of snakes doesn't make those who enjoy them trashy - it just makes you a pussy.
I have over $5,000 into my snakes and display enclosures (radiant heat panels, electronic thermostats,etc.). Current collection includes a Jungle Jaguar Carpet Python, Zebra Jungle Carpet Python, Jayapura Green Tree Python, Diamond Python (60/40 Diamond/Jungle cross), and a hypomelanistic Brazilian Rainbow Boa.
I hope these pics give you nightmares tonight.
Now if you want to talk trashy, ask me about my tattoos...

pet snake?
I respect all forms of life - except snakes. Killing a snake is fun. The owners of pet snakes top the weird list.

When I was little a cousin of mine used to tote his pet snake around in a wal mark bag.
Surprise surprise, he spent more of the last 25 years in jail than out.

Old news. And not an alter - when is the last time you saw a post by 911moto? That was the alter.

if you see a man with a pony tail running down the street there is a 100% chance it is because he forgot to feed his snake
