I’m sure they do try to change up their routine, but If a psychopath wants to try and kill officers he/she would probably do it randomly like the last pos. The difference is the officers are more aware of their surroundings, unlike last time.

If officers are fired, wonder how many current officers will look elsewhere for employment?

Imagine the message canning those two police officers would send to anyone seriously considering joining the police force. You do your job, you attempt to arrest an armed thug with a long history of criminal activity, he resists arrest, goes for his gun, gets shot in the process, you’re cleared by feds and state, and your own police force and mayor refuse to have your back, and want to throw you under the bus themselves.

You know what that says? It says if I’m a cop and try to do my duty, my own mayor and police force do not have my back... frick That!!!!! So, now you’ve relegated yourself to the worst candidates possible for the police force, because anyone worth their weight won’t want to be anywhere near that shite. They’ll pick someplace much better, and good for them.

Then when crime inevitably gets even worse it'll be blamed on racism of some sort.

If they fire Lake, then those who obey laws should protest...at a convenience store also.

They are just setting up things for the civil case to come that will be held in judge White's new court. Have an officer involved in the death fired adds to the case for the Sterling's. This has been the plan for a while.

They should hold their chest out. Good Friday is usually reserved for firing high level state employees. For instance...

I’m sure there would be some that leave, but I’ve been told that they would possibly stop writing tickets and stop making arrests and stuff like that. Whether that happens, I don’t know. I wouldn’t blame them the least bit if that happened. Can you imagine the money the city would lose if that happens? The last ticket I got cost me like $200.

Troy Bell would have definitely made all this go away. He would have put BR on the right track.

Yep. Already hard enough for police departments in high crime areas to recruit new cops because they have to compete with neighboring departments in the suburbs that pay just as well, have less ghetto trash to deal with, and lower odds of having to shoot or be shot at.

This is a good point. My first thought was "maybe they are not going to get fired and they are holding the press conference at a time when no one is paying attention to the news and she is hoping they can say they will remain on the police force and there will not be anyone around to react, but I do question one thing.

I know they did an internal investigation, but how will they be able to "legally" fire them? Since the AG's office investigation cleared them of any wrongdoing, could they challenge the internal investigation in court?

Big difference between criminal liability and civil rights charges and breaking police department standards or policy.

It may have been sloppy policy work. Not saying in any way that AS wasn’t responsible for his death, but they could easily find that the officer or officers failed to follow protocol/ department policies and should be reprimanded. Big difference in what the department is looking at versus the attorney general and the DOJ was looking at in the two previous investigations

AG's office cleared them of committing any crimes. That doesn't mean that their agency can't say that they did not follow de-escalation policies, or something else.

I am sort of playing devil's advocate here, but if they failed protocol, can an argument be made from AS toxicology report, that because he was acting irrational, they had to break protocol? Having the substances that he had in him allowed him to not be affected by the taser. If the police were able to take him down with the taser there is a good chance he would still be alive. They would have handcuffed him, threw him in the back seat of the cop car and hauled him off to jail.

If they would have responded to that 911 call and somehow he got away and went on and killed an innocent person.. Everyone would be in an uproar because the police let a felon, who was armed, getaway.

If a jury wants to stick it to the man, they could do almost anything.

But the fact remains, no one can tell you that if Lake and Salamoni would have acted any differently that Sterling, a felon possessing a firearm, a felon on narcotics, and someone who has previously defied authority would have ever complied with the officers.

We can play woulda, shoulda, coulda all day long; however, Sterling was responsible for everything that happened.
He broke the law and put a gun in his pocket
He pointed that gun at a citizen
He didn't listen to two police officers
He struggled with two police officers
Because he was on narcotics, he didn't go down after being tasered

Everything this man did contributed to the situation.
