Is the world a better or worse place without arse beatings?

Growing up in the 80's was pretty mild compared to previous years... but even in the 80's and 90's fights in schools happened, spankings at home happened, getting paddled at school happened...
Now it seems most of those things can end up with you being expelled (for fighting), in trouble with DHR (for beating your kids), or in a lawsuit for hitting a minor (paddling kids).
Obviously, grown ups don't resort to violence to settle arguments and disagreements... but knowing that you might get your arse beat from previous experience is a good deterrent.

It's kinda sad that the old saying of "Don't pick a fight, but finish it" isn't upheld. It's like you are teaching kids not to stand up for themselves against bullies and just take a beating so that they don't get punished.
Violence and fighting is not a solution, but being punished for standing up for yourself isn't either.

Depends.
If you ask SJW news sources like Salon/HuffPo/Gawker/Vox, they'll tell you it's a godsend and logically speaking to children/creating safe spaces for them is the way to go.
If you stick with more of a conservative crowd, Drudge, comical conservative scene, you'll get the complete opposite.
I stand with the side of: Used only in situations where firm discipline should be established. Firm hand spankings. Maybe a belt when dealing with a child between 8-10. But the spankings stop after preteen years. Then it's just "get the hell out of my house".

Coincidentally I was at the park with my daughter last weekend talking to a Vietnam vet whose 2 1/2 year granddaughter was in a local Denham Springs daycare. He stated that a male classmate approximately the same age hit his granddaughter so she socked the little bitch boy back. They are best friends at school now so I say violence is not only good but creates friends.

The approach I take with my kids is that the punishment fits the crime. I think it helps them understand levels of consequences, with the arse whipping being one of the consequences.
The reward system has been the thing that has helped my kids the most I think. They focus more on achieving a reward than taking an arse whipping.

If by arse beatings you mean discipline via a spanking then the world is worse off. With that said, the punishment should fit the "crime".....not all "crimes" should result in spankings. Holding kids personally responsible for their actions is in the top 2 of parental duties (#1 being keeping them safe & healthy).

I hate that cowards can hide behind the law. There are some people that deserve a face rearrangement, and it would be the best thing for their attitude.
