Is the word ‘Cadillac’ more important to us as a society now than the actual cars?

People use ‘Cadillac’ in conversation to describe something near the top in quality and features. Many people no longer care about the brand’s vehicles.
Years ago when someone was going to photocopy something they would say they were going to ‘Xerox’ it. That was because that company had the technology. Now the tech has spread and hardly anyone says that anymore.
Is it more important to us that Cadillac exists so that we can continue using thr word in conversation to convey a certain meaning?

A Chinaman goes to see the eye doctor. After the exam the doctor said, "I know why you're having trouble." The Chinaman says, "Why?" Doctor said, "You have a cataract." Chinaman says, "No, I have a Rincoln Continental."

The Cadillac Principle.
Learned this in economics. The higher the price, the more perceived value it has to certain gullible consumers.

Cadillac means expensive rip off to me.
It's like the company that makes their product the most expensive.... just because..... many people just buy the most expensive brand thinking it is the best.
A cadillac is on par with a buick. Don't get me wrong, buicks are nice. But a cadillac is overpriced, and frankly, ugly as shite inside.
