Once you give that fertilized egg all the rights as a fully formed human, there are no half-measures, rationalizations or excuses. Suddenly, the government is all up in there.

Also….some of these crazy restrictive abortion laws would make many aspects of many fertility treatments illegal (genetic testing of fertilized embryos, etc). Which will mean many fertility clinics will either stop offering certain treatments like IVF so they aren’t prosecuted or they charge even more money since they are more at risk. So those actually trying to have a child now will also be affected.

So you're saying one potential unintended consequence might be forcing people who don't want babies, to have babies, and keeping people who want to have babies from having babies.

Damn, that would be f'd up.

Most women who abort aren't motherhood material. So, yall just abort away. The world is probably better off if certain bloodlines die out.

Abortion is just eugenics. Black women are the primary target.

Well if that state has those laws..yes.

But those couples can just move to another state to do IVF. They don’t have to live in that state. That’s how that works right?

This board really respects women, and holds them in high regard.

So, you're saying collective, generic comprehensive statements are dumb? Or are you just not part of "this board?"

That's what I've been told. But then I've never left the state I was born in over 55 years ago - so what would I know about leaving a state.

...except to say, it ain't as easy as other people make it out to be.

Couples in Louisiana would have to move out of state if they wanted to do IVF. Since they are wanting to make it a homicide charge for destroying a fertilized egg.

And I don’t know if many realize that sometimes in the process of IVF…embryos don’t make it. So likely fertility clinics would just close shop in LA to avoid prosecution.

ETA: I’ve already read of many couples that have embryos frozen as they wait for next steps in IVF are considering moving their embryos to other states since things are so uncertain in those states trying to enforce these crazy abortion laws

Abortions happen in all races and classes of women, man. Banning abortion overwhelmingly hurts poor folks the most.

Well off people will simply travel to where it is legal and get a safe abortion.

Poor people who cant afford to travel to and pay for legal service will find local shady places (if they can come up with the scratch) or do it themselves, or are forced to raise a child they likely cannot afford, and likely continue the trend of systemic poverty.. or worse, they die trying to do an abortion at home.

Banning abortion is punitive action and control over others because of emotion over a sensitive topic, and nothing more.

Freedom from consequences is all they care about. Nobody is forcing her to get pregnant. Nobody is going after birth control. But they want the option to kill a baby because they regret something.

They keep screaming "My uterus!". Well, then take control of your sex life and be responsible, ladies. There are LOTS of options to responsibly have sex, without procreating. This debate makes women look stupid about something as basic as sexual responsibility.

Wait never mind.

Nah.

Roe v. Wade is 50 years old. They aren’t moving on. You thought you saw pussy hats before? You are watering the seeds of a grass roots democratic voter surge.

Consequence-free?

Wow! I reserve "douche" for nuclear moments.

You just earned it.
