crime, obesity, ignorance, and failing schools?
Crime - We had a serial package stealer last month. Does that count?
Obesity - No, just the Mexicans that haven't sold out yet. All the whities are pretty active
Ignorance - Yea, the old Heights folks hate progress. The new Heights folks just want convenience. Bickering and ignorance ensues.
Failing schools - Two elementary schools are good. The rest of the schools suck. That may change as kids in all the young families grow up.
So, the answer is...it has a lot of the good from New Orleans without all the bad.

But sadly, at the end of the day, it's still Houston. The arm pit of Texas. And that's saying something because there's still West Texas.
Panhandle, North, East, South, West, & Central Texas >>> Houston.

Haha
I guess a lot of the new houses in the Heights resemble Louisiana architecture. All the restored bungalows definitely don't remind me of Louisiana though.

Boil House does NOT do this. Wife and I (no pics) have gone to a ton of places looking for proper louisiana crawfish. This place has it and great boiled gulf shrimp. Crawfish actually boiled in boil and not sprinkled on top with garlic butter dip. Owner has king cakes from Gambino's currently as well.

It doesn't make sense. Does nothing to enhance the flavor of crawfish. One of the most popular Houston "boiled crawfish" establishments actually asks you what flavor or heat profile you want sprinkled on.
It's mind blowing. I can't go to coworker "crawfish boils", I'll end up offending the host

But do they have our crime, obesity, ignorance, and failing schools? Until they achieve these goals they cannot be little Louisiana.
Don't have your economy either

Someone told me that The Big Mamou on Studewood closed. I loved that place when we lived in the Heights.

I asked two boilers this, both at catered events in Houston, response was "we get many, many requests for this style" (one was miffed that I asked)
Worst part, is by the third batch my hands have a few scratches or minor cuts from having peeled 150 of them, so the cayenne gets in your bloodstream.
My solution? I now ask.. Louisiana style or Texas style? I decline invitations to the latter.
