No, because I'm not a thirty-thousand dollar millionaire and bought a car within my means that I can afford the upkeep on.

The Veyron is a joy to drive, BTW.

Had to replace the fuel pump in my 05 town and country. Have to drop the fuel tank in order to do so. When I was putting the tank back in place, I apparently nicked the line that carries vapors to the EVAP canister.

Cannot find a replacement anywhere - apparently they are no longer made. Have a couple of junkyard guys on the lookout for one.

I guess I'm slightly polluting the air which I guess makes me trashy. Thankfully I'm not in Baton Rouge so I don't need to pass an air quality test.

GM trucks are programmed to have an irreversible CEL come on at 50k miles. It is known.

I drive a Tundra now so I probably will never see such a light.

Mine has been on for months but this week it stopped.

I don't know if the issue resolved itself or if the CEL bulb burned out.

Spankum, you can go to an Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc. and they can hook up to your car and tell you what the code means. Ask them what button to push to clear the code. They can't do it, but you can . . . .

Once I clear it how long will it stay clear?. Need to get car inspected and have been told it will fail with CEL on. Car drives ok just not ready to drop $500-$600 to fix it.

It depends on how persistent the fault is. If it triggers a fault above a certain threshold (# of times in a given # of cycles) it will trigger the CEL.

Also many vehicles will report a "not ready" condition for a certain number of cycles after the reset (or replacing a battery).

If you reset it and drive 50 miles or so and it hasn't come on again you should be good to inspect.

So when you clear the check engine light, all the monitors go to not ready. Then as you drive the monitors run and go to ready. If that monitor runs and there's a problem it will kick the check engine light on. If you can get it inspected with enough monitors ready but the one with the problem still at not ready then you can pass. In BR on a 2001 and newer you can only have 1 monitor not ready. There's 7-8 monitors or so.

It's important to know what exact light you are dealing with:

gas cap was bad,

You probably have a small vacuum leak. I have friends who say they can locate them easily, I've never had that luck.

I'd prob ignore it too.

And the auto parts stores are like inspection sticker guys. Depends who you get. Most of the guys I talk to dgaf.

A GM doesn't run right if that little engine is not lit up.

If check gas cap comes on and then you get a check engine light it most likely is a canister purge valve failure. the part is about $30.00 and you can watch a youtube to learn how to change it out. The valve is most likely located on the front of the gas tank
