Crime in Rio is mostly contained inside the favelas. As long as your are in Copacabana, Ipanema and neighborhoods in the South Zone you'll be ok. If you go to Lapa at night, which you should definitely do, just be weary of the females because they're the ones who will pick your pockets

Zika is a scary. The CDC has Brazil at level 2 right now. There have only been 3 level 1 events - H1NI, EBOLA, KATRINA DISASTER.

Don't most countries go into the red for hosting the olympics?

The thread of terror attacks are always high for Olympics I'm sure security will be high.

In 2020, they will be in Tokyo or Istanbul. I imagine they'll practically lock down those cities.

Edit: tokyo will host the 2020 Olympics. I'm guessing Paris will host the 2024 Olympics, which will be 100 years since they hosted the 1924 Olympics.

You should also make sure the females are actually females.

That's the easy part. The females have the nice arse.

Spend time in the South Zone (Zona Sul) and you'll see some of the most beautiful women ever.

craziest thing to me is that a section of a bike path fell and killed 4 people, they are going to fix it and use it in competition.

I was down there last summer (their winter) and all the locals were talking about it will not be ready in time.

If you're a person who likes schedules or has a concept of time then you will get annoyed there.

Aside from the thugs coming out of the slum and tainted drinking water, I'd think if anything major was going to happen (a la terrorism) would happen during the Euro Cup

Seriously, if this isn't a plot straight from a movie. Terrible virus with little to no symptoms. Brazil is a huge hot spot, and we are sending representatives from every country in the world to visit and then return home

And they are all young, mostly single, in amazing shape and probably bang 10x more than the average person.

Harvard Public Health Another good article.
quote:

Rio de Janeiro is more affected by Zika than anyone expected, rendering earlier assumptions of safety obsolete. When in January the International Olympic Committee declared Rio a “safe environment” for the Games, it was speculating, because Brazil’s Ministry of Health temporized until February to declare Zika a notifiable disease and begin counting cases.

quote:

Many have suggested that Zika will follow the pattern of other mosquito-borne diseases and decline during Rio’s winter months of July to September. While that is probably true, nobody actually knows because Rio has never experienced a winter with Zika before.

quote:

However, nobody knows how deep winter’s ebb will be, especially this year, because Rio is undergoing a surprising and unexplained disease surge: in Rio de Janeiro city, dengue cases in the first quarter of 2016 are a shocking six fold higher than a year ago (8,133 cases, compared to 1,285 cases).

quote:

Brazil’s Zika inevitably will spread globally — given enough time, viruses always do — it helps nobody to speed that up.[14] In particular, it cannot possibly help when an estimated 500,000 foreign tourists flock into Rio for the Games, potentially becoming infected, and returning to their homes where both local Aedes mosquitoes and sexual transmission can establish new outbreaks.

I'm going to Lollapalooza in July. It's about 100,000 people in Chicago. Obviously everyone is unarmed and there is security, but no more than a few cops at each gate. Call me crazy, but I'm a little concerned

not sure how informed you are on this matter, but there is a ton of security at Lolla. Just because you may only see a couple cops at the gates, doesnt mean there isnt 10x more you dont see. There are layers and layers and layers of surveillance and security that start blocks outside the perimeter, you probably just dont notice it, as it's not very conspicuous.

It's just you. Sorry you don't enjoy seeing athletes of nations all over the world coming together to compete to win something they have dreamed about their entire lives.

I need a glass of wine or 3 before I can fully appreciate the trippiness in that video.
