If you repeatedly miss their satire, this is probably correct. Its woven throughout their work

They have a few funny bits but I often don't get British humor.

How do you define "I fart in your general direction" as high brow?
That part may not exactly be high brow, but step back and consider the reasoning required to explain coconut-laden swallows and whether witches and ducks are made of wood and can be used in the construction of bridges. That's some pretty funny stuff right there!

From the same time period, Are You Being Served?, was much funnier to me.

Never have laughed at it. It’s very over the top dumb British humor
Same for Mr Bean. It’s crazy people think he’s the funniest thing ever

It isn't for everyone...i think it goes over many people's heads. Some need more low brow humor like dumb and dumber to be entertained.
This. Like a lot of British humor, I think it's an acquired taste.
I found most of Monty Python pretty damn funny with the occasional exception of when they went into female characters-----which they often did.
The falsetto voices they used to portray the females, along with their strong British accents tended to make it less able to understand some of the dialogue and that took away from the overall impact.
I would tune in every time it came on the local PBS channel and usually laugh my arse off at their antics.

That one, along with 'Allo, 'Allo and later, Keeping Up Appearances, were all great stuff! BBC used to have really great programming. Of course, by the same token, good shows like Laugh In and Smothers Brothers have long since departed American television and we are worse for it. But maybe, in ending those great programs, they prevented them from morphing into what SNL has become in its old age.

That's probably because it was more in a "sitcom" format and not skits jumping from one subject to another every few minutes. Also, you had established characters who repeated their roles in every episode.
I was also a fan of "Keeping Up Appearances" and an absolute fan of the short-lived "Fawlty Towers" that really showcased John Cleese's talent both as an actor and writer. Too bad they only made something like 12 episodes of that gem.

Indeed.
The Hamster was considered promiscuous in the middle ages, Elderberries was what people made wine out of.
He's calling the parents a wino and a whore. Most here are too dumb to understand the references.

Cleese is hilarious. I think Michael Palin is equally as entertaining but hasn't near the exposure that Cleese has enjoyed since the days of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
I agree with you on Palin, who is really overlooked. Last night I watched a documentary crew that was allowed on the set of Life of Brian and it was Palin that was constantly funny. Beyond Python, Palin's work includes a Fish Called Wanda, Time Bandits, Brazil, even as recent at The Death of Stalin. He also did a LOT of travel documentaries for the BBC that are worth a watch (Around The World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole, Full Circle). And he's a pretty prolific writer who wrote a lot of the best Python bits.
