Is looking for apartments/houses to rent on Craigslist even worth my time?

I am moving to Iowa next week and the company I am working for is only putting me in a hotel for a week so I have to find an apartment or house to rent pretty quickly, so I go onto craigslist just to look to see what houses and apartments are on there and most of the listings seem pretty shady and sketchy. I bet even some of them are scams
Am I better off just using another service to find an apartment or a house to rent?

I have found a couple rental places on craigslist. You just have to sift through the crap.

Absolutely. You can bypass a lot of bullshite and find private owners this way. I've done it 3 times in BR and all three were successful leases.

Absolutely. There are, of course, plenty of scams/spam, etc., but I've used it to find an apartment before. It's a good starting point for sure.

I have used it to list my rent home 3-4 times. Normally it rents in a day or 2. I would think the good ones go quick and the crap sits...

I'd go with another service that knows the area.

I list my rental property on there.

I've used it throughout BR and Nola with no problems. However I knew the areas well and was able to sort through the crap and find some deals in nice locations.
If it was an area I knew nothing about I might use a service.

Mine has never lasted more than a week or so, and I'm high as eagle pussy on rent.

Well I am seeing a lot of ads like this:
Again, you just have to sift through those. You find out relatively quickly if it's a scam or not. There are plenty legit ads on there.

I am probably too low, I have listed before at 11:00 and had a deposit in had at 3:00 same day. I think I am going up another couple of hundred next time I need a new tenant...

It looks legit at first, but a lot of ads follow the same style. Broken English, free email address that has the same style(2 last names), etc.
Also try Zillow app/website. I like that map feature.

Definitely for condos and houses. Big shitty apartment complexes spam Craiglist though.
