but the Lafayette area is miles above when talking food .
And then when you hit the smaller towns, it's even 10x better than that.
If you're going on a food tour, lafayette is a good hub (lol), but venture further into the rice fields and you'll find better restaurants.

Well, white people shouldn’t be on the first 3 blocks of Bourbon regardless at any point of the day. Avoid those blocks and you’re generally ok.
Sure, in Lafayette, you won't find any trannies sucking each other's dicks in the middle of the street, like in New Orleans, but the food is good and you probably won't get murdered. Teedy's dictates make NOLA even less fun now anyway.

What is this about?
OP, I would not say it is worth it. However, I would also not be going to NO.

Lafayette sucks. It's not the fun town it was 40 years ago. The food isn't even that good anymore.

The people downvoting me probably have just had BR boudin their whole life, so of course billy's and best stop tastes amazing to them.

Cop killing on Evangeline thruway months ago. Made national news. Looks like it’ll come out today as a justified killing by the cop just FYI

Exactly.
Which is why avoid the tourist shite and head to opelousas, washington, eunice, or ville platte and actually get a decent plate lunch or something.
Pounce, beef tips, roast, meatball stew, etc.

It's not worth renting a car and spending six hours on the road from NOLA to Laf and back for Billys and Bon Temps.
If you had other activities planned, Plantation tour, swamp tour, Avery Island, tour, then yeah, hit up those spots on the way.
You can get Billy's delivered in the mail, baw. And not blow 6 hours of your weekend.
Bon Temps is good, but there are probably 100 restaurants in NOLA that are 10x better.

If you do come to Lafayette get breakfast or lunch at T-Coons.

Damn, that seem like forever ago. As long as they stay up in that area I don't care what they do.

If you want an ACTUAL cajun meal or want to get some specialty meats and stuff, yeah.
I guess the million other places in South LA with those exact same things (and likely better than Lafayette anyway) are useless then. Good to know.

Not since they shut down the Popeye's buffet.

If there was something going on maybe. Or if you were going to by passing through, it would be worth making a stop.
I personally wouldn't make a 4-5 hour drive round trip just for boudin & cracklins, but that's just me.

Billy's sucks.
Kartchner's ftw.
Kartchner's ftw.

Where are you flying in from? If you're from the south and ever drive the I-10 corridor, I'd just stop in Lafayette/Scott for boudin etc. next time you are in the area. If you are never coming to LA again, it might be worth driving 4hrs round trip if you are REALLY into food. I personally would not make that drive when you can get things almost that good in or around NOLA.

it is a little ironic that Nawlins gets cred for being a place to go for great Cajun food when nothing could be further from the truth, they hopped on the Cajun band wagon when the World's Fair was there in the 80s, hell, they used to serve boiled crawfish chilled, if you could find it, SWLA is the place to go for good food and as several posters have pointed out, it won't be in the popular "touristy" restaurants

I live just outside Lafayette. yes, the boudin and cracklins are good, but no, I would not rent a car and make a 4 hour trip for it. and there's not much else to do here. I don’t personally know, but surely someone knows where you can find decent boudin and cracklins in the NOLA area
