That was my initial comment and her response was "I'm the mother of his children." My response was "that's petty thinking. Be thankful for everything he does for you." She responded "ok."

Exactly. I give a gift to my mom and my kids give gifts to my wife. Is that not how it's supposed to be? We have anniversary, Christmas, birthdays, and Valentine's already.

women don't think this way, but the simple answer is: "Well, you are not his mom"

Calling her petty is awful

Validating her first, maybe you're sorry that hurt her, but you know it wasn't his intention would go a lot further to diffuse the situation

Some parents just like arguing and yelling at each other. Weird, but if it works for them, don't try and push your ideals into their relationship.

FTR, i respect my parents enough not to interject my opinion in their business

The fact you intercede means you care, and they know that. I would continue to try to help them, but I know that's not the popular opinion. You are trying and I commend you.

Are you a licensed family counselor or a psychiatrist?

If not, you need to interject yourself into their relationship like you need to try to perform some Brain Surgery tomorrow morning.

Suggest counseling to either or both of them. If either goes alone, that's better than nothing, but best case is they go together.

Good luck.

Thats pretty terrible that your parents would have you pick sides in an argument. When they do that again, you need to show them what they are doing, and use that as proof that they need to work out their problems in some way, be that one their own, counseling, or just leaving you out of it. No couple should ever make their child pick sides between them

And the only time I would interject is the above situation and if i thought there were signs of abuse. That doesn't sound like an issue here though, I think it's best you let them work it out
