I've never once heard anyone ever complain about government healthcare.

I saw the /s.

But people talk about how "popular" medicare and social security is. Well of course free (and heavily subsided) services are loved by the beneficiaries.

I offer health, vision and dental to my employees and it's a great plan with a $1000 deductible. I pay 80% of the cost. None of them could afford health insurance outside of having it subsidized by me.

This is great.

There will always be people that don't have jobs with employee sponsored healthcare.

The OP is specifically talking about employer sponsored care, so ignore my divergence. To the originally point and you as an employer, would it not be easier for you if there was a national system that covers your employees without you having to administer access to it?

How would that be funded? If by making small businesses pay MORE in payroll taxes, no thanks.

Yeah, but then you're not having to come out with the portion you are covering now and not having to deal with all the admin that comes with it.

Which cost is better? The 80% you're covering for premiums now or the additional taxes it will take to implement a national system?

The 80% cost for several reasons. One, it gives me a competitive advantage over employers who don't offer benefits so I can recruit and retain better talent.

It also allows me to provide coverage that is superior to anything the government could provide

Now I do believe obese skills pay more. That's an issue.
But some people develop cancer, heart issues or other issues which are very expensive and usually no fault of their own and they max their oop out early too.
It's not all fat people.

For the record, I do agree with how it is currently set up so that people with pre-existing issues aren't forced into crippling debt to stay alive (assuming they get health insurance). I have no issue paying my share on that as I know something could very well happen to me later in life.

The example I used was in poor taste. The self-harm individuals are not the highest percentage of high utilization in health insurance. I don't have the numbers, but I imagine the people who get sick/disease/cancer are much higher utilization than overweight people.

Got you.

I would have thought not having the headache would be worth it. If it isn't obvious, I don't run a small business.

Admin on my side is easy. I use ADP for payroll, 401k and health benefits. It's all integrated and simple

absolutely. Anyone who has dealt with the USPS knows how well government subsidized institutions run.

Anyone who has dealt with the USPS, FedEx, and UPS enough to have statistically valid data knows USPS functions just as well as the two private companies.

Who said it was ever their responsibility?

It is a perk to attract employees.

You don't have any family or friends who send you birthday or Christmas cards. Do you?
