I know quite a few vets with disability ratings from 50% to 100%. Every single one has a job making $90k+ after retirement. No one doesn't work.
Heck, one was just in my office, just started a new job after retirement last month. He wouldn't have to work because his wife is a Doctor and makes bank. He just bought a brand new GMC 2500 yesterday and has a $75k bass boat. If he puts a DAV tag on it, I'll send a pic so y'all can rage.

One of my partners is disabled and he pays more in Federal income tax in a year than 10 average Americans make in a year. While certainly the exception blanket statements are usually wrong. Never and always are the bane of the English language.

Blows my mind too. And these people are the ones keeping these prices inflated.

I paid 32k for it in 2017. MSRP was more like 42, but everyone got 10k off sticker at that time.
I miss those 2017 days when a brand new F150 XLT 4x4 was low $30s. The memory of that time which seems not too long ago has made it impossible to accept current prices.

It truly is crazy. I make just over 6 figures, single, and have a $750 truck payment that my company pays 70% of as I drive for work. I live in a 1 bedroom 560 square foot apartment in Dallas and put 20% of income or so in my retirement accounts. Pre Covid I had the same income and could save about $15k a year and now am living paycheck to paycheck. No idea how all these people do it unless they have 0 savings for retirement

Yep. I realize prices go up over time, but it's tough to swallow that type of increase. I'm just going to keep mine running as long as possible, hopefully until all the kids are mostly off the payroll.
I see XL work trucks for damn near 50k sometimes now.

You’re talking to the same board that buys their ole’ lady a new Navigator in cash but balks at chicken tender prices
The same people or the same “board”?
You do realize that there are actual individuals with different circumstances and different opinions and ideas on a message board?
Although it seems there is unanimity on a message board, it only seems that way. 5 outspoken posters on a topic will keep those with differing opinions from speaking up.

You can watch youtube videos of dealer lots with these $70K plus trucks and SUV's sitting.
Dodge and it's ownership is in serious trouble right now. And they just announced they are getting rid of their classic pickup which was their most affordable.

What’s your point? And how is doing this relevant to my point?
That because “starter homes” haven’t been built in any decent number for the last several decades, I can next to guarantee that the “below the median” home you like to think you were so humble to get is likely more expensive today, even when accounting for inflation, than it was when you purchased it twenty years newer/nicer.
And in going through that exercise, I was hoping you would see that it’s a bit more complicated than “stop being so stuck up lol”.

I don’t get it either. We make a decent HH income and I feel like we never have money for anything.
Same and it's because you aren't stupid. Most of these people mentioned in the OP don't have money for anything either, but still buy these things.

school begging for away to pay less every month (i thought people pay by the year?)..
I certainly don't beg to pay less, but I pay monthly. The school doesn't charge interest and I make money on the money I hold. Silly to pay all at once in my mind in that scenario.
Also my kids' school lets us pay tuition with credit cards (which we then pay off immediately). The points are niiiiice.

Half of this board, probably more really, owns 60k+ pickup trucks that get shitty gas mileage that they use for no other reason than to drive from home to work everyday. Yet nearly everyone of them will tell you that they absolutely need that lifted F250 for the nine times a year they have to drive on the gravel road to hunting camp so they can shoot a deer under a corn feeder from a heated stand with wifi.

Millionaires in terms of all assets (incl. homes)? Or millionaires in terms of liquidity? I would doubt the latter.
I'm technically a millionaire if we go by the former and I absolutely fricking dread my wife's $600 car payment and feel like I'm going broke at the grocery store half the time

Insanity.
I can't really trend my spend effectively because we've periodically added kids. But my guess would be the exact same groceries are at least 50% higher than they were 5 years ago. 2019 was the last great year and the last real season of college football.
