Is it possible to get the smoke smell out of a house where the owner smoked for years?

A realtor claimed to me that his "buddy has this machine that you run for 24 hrs and it gets rid of it completely."
I'm skeptical.
Smokers really frick up a lot of good stuff. Mostly their own stuff, though.

If the house has carpet, tear it out. Wash and repaint the walls. Nicotine will stick to everything.

Ozone machines do work. But you’re gonna need to change any carpet and paint everything.

I moved into a house that smelled like Indian food and diapers. It didn't take me long to cure that.

Why would they have not done that already before they started showing it?

Thanks, dude. That's great news.

Seems like the seller might be a stupid person. That's my guess.

He probably has 10 houses he can sell for the asking price right from his desk.

I am sure it is possible, but cigarette smoke is a hard smell to get rid of. It gets into the walls, if there is carpet, it's in the carpet. Im sure if you are replacing all of the furniture and give the house a fresh paint job.. Other than that, that machine will likely just put some kind of scent that will overpower the smoke smell.

Popcorn ceiling will hold that smell in also

Are you insinuating that those are two different smells?

This brings up a good question. Which stinch holds longer? Smoke or Indian (dot) BO?

i agree with these recommendations.
ozone generator, a serious one.
then paint, but wash and use a good primer as well.

Previous owners of our house smoked. Removed all carpet, repainted walls, even stripped and restained the kitchen cabinets. If I'm gone for a few days, the first thing I smell when I walk in the door is smoke.

Clean the duct work.

Make spicy indian curry everyday for a few months and you won't even notice it.

I can't imagine that smoke endures longer than Indian baby diapers, but people have been so indoctrinated with anti-smoking propaganda that the mere thought that someone enjoyed a Camel Light somewhere 50 years ago puts them into an irrational state.

Are those ozone machines used in previously owned cars?
I recently purchased a used car that I told the dealer that it had a smell and they ran something they put in the cup holder that sprays around.
Never smelled anything bad again. Other than that stuff used to clean, which had a sort of that chlorine swimming pool smell

May as well clean the coils while they're at it.
