Exactly. It isn't an excuse. It is the truth. If someone broke into my home right now and told me they'd murder me if I don't produce at least $1 in cash, I'd be murdered

These kids are to be admired this day in time for at least having a job. Especially a job few would have. Most would rather sit home and await a check.
And they only get paid about $2 an hour. LA Restaurant Association lobbies like hell to keep the minimum wage at about $2, I know for a fact.
So, I always give at least a $. Around holidays I'll give $5 which surprises the hell out of them.

Well, I can't disagree with what you posted but I know I've asked several kids who work at Sonic in various towns across LA what they earn and they all told me they get that $2 something an hour.
