Doesn't George W. Bush live nearby in Preston Hollow?

That should tell you a lot about the affluence of the area.

Yes. But Preston Hollow is a neighborhood within the City of Dallas and is also within the Dallas Independent School District. Highland Park (and University Park) are separate cities with their own school district.

I do, I just define it as the border of Oak Lawn and Medical District when explaining it to people... for obvious reasons.

What really solidified Highland Park though is when they built Highland Park Village, which I believe was the first large scale outdoor shopping center in the US (think Perkins Row but nicer). Now it is essentially the nicest neighborhood in Dallas with the nicest houses, except they pay their own taxes, have their own city council, and their own school. It's a pretty sweet set up if you can afford to live there

uhh no, having SMU and Dallas close by to leech off of for years and years is what solidified them. Where do you think most people from HP work?

two of the nicer areas. a bit east, Lakewood, etc. are also nice. Lakewood area around Swiss Avenue is old Dallas money.

eta: only thing that drives me crazy about the M Streets is everyone parking on the street. Makes it miserable trying to drive down one of them.

I live in the M Streets/ Lakewood area too. House prices aren't Highland Park but it is getting pretty expensive. All the new McMansions they are building in Lakewood are now being priced at $1 mil and up. I sold a lot to a builder last summer for $330k and he still had to tear the existing duplex down. I'm glad I bought here in the 1999.

yea that was huge for me.

It doesn't look like some cookie cutter housing development, there are huge trees everywhere, and I can walk or bike to everything I need.

Best part is how easy it is to get everywhere in Dallas from here b/c of the location. It's either a 5-20 minute drive (35ish for DFW airport if you go Dallas speeds ) via highways or I can use one of the many bus stops every few blocks that are only a few minutes from the DART rail at Mockingbird Station.

Yeah... Market is absolutely crazy these days. Uptown/Oak Lawn condo sales are up 46%. You can imagine what that's doing to prices.

I play kickball at Tietze Park and drink at Stan's every Thursday. I just go back down to Fitzhugh via Skillman, etc. rather than try and contend with that business.

That being said, I wouldn't mind living over there. I like the area, and close to where I go out most of the time. Don't go Uptown much anymore. Too packed.

WAKA TX Thunder league? Our company had a team last year, but we didn't sign up this year. Stan's is always a good time.

Yup. What was the team name?

I've played the last 3 seasons for 3 different teams. 4th season coming up, finally getting a bit of continuity.

Just the Bit. Maroon shirts. We weren't too good and the season lasted like 4 months because of all the rain outs, so we didn't have a lot of interest when it came time to sign up again.

Gotcha. We're maroon this go-round. And yeah... that was the season that never ended. We only had one rainout this season. Playoffs going on now. Won our first game, championship round is tonight. We might have a chance first game, but probably not second.
