Maybe continuous expansion of "smarts" isn't the best method for our species survival? Smart people keep on thinking up better ways to kill ourselves off.

Skynet, accidentally make a black hole / blow up the earth, etc.

Are you alive?

Then we are evolving... IF mountains begin to crumble and seas boil, we are not evolving. If dogs start walking upright and talking about taking over, we may be fricked.

I have wondered if some forms of high-functioning autism are some form of early stage intellectual evolution.

I have absolutely zero research to back that up.

When you look at how eccentric / weird a lot of these new tech big shots, the ones who are really able to see how different sectors are interconnected, it isn't too weird of a thought.

This is the Truth. Humankind is in the process of De-Evolution. The band DEVO had songs about this long, long ago during a long-forgotten time.

In my understanding of evolution, the whole species does not evolve together. At least that's unlikely. A small subset adapts, prospers, and out-competes the remainder of the species it evolved from.

It is unlikely that humans are bucking the trend of the evolution of life.

While smarter and more capable people tend to be reproducing less, they also tend to be reproducing with each other. The effect in the long run is a theoretically wider disparity between the offspring of the more capable and less capable, even if the proportions are out of whack.

Yes, that makes sense.

There is no such thing as "de-evolution".

Evolution is simply a change in allele frequencies over time.

It doesn't matter if it is a "positive" or "negative" change.

Some people don't get this about evolution. It's just change, not directed change at a positive.

Yup but it's happening in reverse.

Highlights ? While walking and using a cell phone is common, effects on gait are unclear. ? We investigated if walking errors occur when talking or texting on a cell phone. ? Gait velocity is reduced when using a cell phone while talking or texting. ? Navigational errors occur when texting while walking. ? Texting while walking produces greater interference than talking on a cell phone.

But how will this effect genetic selection?

Is the study suggesting that random mutation will produce a positive reproductive advantage for people with better balance while using a phone and walking?

Yes.

God created this universe when he blew up his first idea. (big bang) (see multiverse theory). He built this universe with evolution in mind just so we would have this argument to weed out the idiots. Pretty soon he will blow this one up too but first he will return to earth and gather all the smart people on spaceships and teleport them to the other better universe he created.

Why doesn't everyone understand this.

There's no way cell phones aren't replaced in 50 years with something head mounted or implanted.

Unless there is some sort of selective pressure that gives a reproductive advantage to people with those traits, that's unlikely.

Basic premise is that we are evolving to mesh with artificial intelligence as part of a natural evolution geared toward interstellar travel, exploration and colonization that will guarantee the survival of our species. It's fascinating stuff.

This does not describe biological evolution.

Anyway, evolution is a continuous process. Also, the end goal of evolution is not humanoid or sentience. That is all happenstance based on variables caused by genetic mutations, natural selection, and niche partitioning.

That’s not how evolution works and that theory has been debunked
