This right here. I got a Poli Sci degree from Camp LSU, couldn't get a job even thought I was told I was the best candidate by far for a couple of positions and ended up opening my own biz in the trades. I've done pretty well!

Yeah, I dropped out of Liberal Arts at LSU and worked my way up to become a trade school CEO. I make
$300,000 per year.
$300,000 per year.

In almost all instances, yes, it is worth it.

A degree in Russian literature, absolutely not.
Not to be a nit picker
That’s a useful degree if you want to go into intelligence work in Eastern Europe, or in Russia itself.
It would help you understand the Russian mindset.

Where's El Gaucho when we need him?

With the rising debt, does a degree even mean anything anymore? I don’t know that it does.
You can come out making 300k without a degree in some instances.
If you’re going into veterinary medicine, dentistry, or STEM, perhaps. If you’re going to major in business or accounting and get an MBA perhaps. If you’re going to major in economics and are committed to seeing that through to the PhD level, perhaps,
Otherwise, the answer is almost universally no.

Same. The Poli Sci degree almost forces you to choose another path after graduation. You’re four years older at that point and more likely to make a wise decision. Plus far from burned out since it’s not a very difficult path.
Eta: If I had a “career” at 22 I probably would have married a shrew and be miserable.

The average lifetime difference in income (in real terms) between those with degrees vs. those without degrees is something like a million or slightly above, so unless you end up studying something particularly useless like East African Water Dancing, the odds are that the degree will mean a lot in terms of lifetime income.

It was worth it for me since I needed the credits to become a CPA.
