Those of you who were brought up with the poor will remember collecting Coke Bottles and turning them in for change.

The big ones were worth a quarter.

Good times.

Nothing like avoiding the snakes and spiders to get them out of the ditch. $4.75 later and I was a rich mofo.

Little Debbie, Super Bubble, Mississippi Mud Pies. That's what I'd buy with my bottle money.

Man those bigger bottles came in a 6 pack plastic case. One time I found 2 cases and I thought I was rich.

The little bottles were a nickle.

The best time was parking my bike and going in the Kroger in NBR off Plank Road and Airline.

I found $140 in cash thrown all over the place. Then I returned the bottles I collected for $1.25.
Boy, I thought I was rich for a 10 yr old.

Do they still have the city names on the bottle bottom?
Was that the city where it was originally bottled?

I spent my first 9 years growing up behind that Kroger on Shelly Street. I used to ride my bike in what at the time seemed to be their massive parking lot. And I have vague memories of watching the Shopper's Fair on Plank Road burn when I was 5, I think. Shopper's Fair fronted Plank Road, and Kroger's was in the rear.

I think it was where the bottle was made. If I remember correctly, the value was also on the bottom.

Mom used to take them to the Kroger when I was a kid. There was a place in the back of the store you brought the empties, and they gave you a credit slip to give to the cashier when you checked out to apply to the bill.

Nevermind collecting, what the hell happened to the free drink winning tops that bottling companies had?

Only time I ever remember getting the reused bottles was the machine at the Goodwood Library back when there wasn't a library for every damn neighborhood and it was THE library.
