Is a smash and grab robbery of a jewelry store the perfect crime?

A few guys can plan it out so it's fast. They run in, smash the glass cases and swipe all of the jewelry and get out.

You can get a million dollars worth of jewelry and be in and out in under 1 minute.

I can't think of a crime that can get someone that much money that quickly with the relatively low risk of being caught like a smash and grab of a jewelry store.

That jewelry is worthless if they have no way to sell it.

What are you going to do with the jewelry.

You have to fence the jewelry. Most normal people wouldn't have the connections to unload the merchandise.

Lots of jewelry stores have armed people in case of just such an event.

A lot of jewelry stores use cz jewelry in the glass cases. So dudes end up stealing stuff that's worth almost nothing.

Yes and no. As far as getting away with the crime, probably yes. There was a group doing this all over the world a while back.

The no comes in the ability to liquidate the stolen assets. Jewelry is not easy to move and it leaves a big paper trail. The secondary market for jewelry is garbage and the value drops by at least 50% from retail.

Obviously you have to plan ahead.

You can rob a bank through the drive through lanes. You can actually stipulate that you don't want dye packs, and they're not supposed to give them to you.

Robbing a bank would be easy. Getting away with it depends on the perp I'd assume.

I've seen interviews from law enforcement saying these smash and grab people would generall already have a way of unloading it before they even rob a place.

And the etchings don't guarantee anything will be recovered and they can be removed.

If you have the equipment to scrub diamonds then you aren't doing smash and grabs

I'm not going to pretend like I know all of the ins and outs.. but obviously people do it because it works.

I don't know what they do after they have the jewelry... but obviously they have a way of making profit.

Murder for hire is the best criminal pursuit IMO

This. Plus if you do find someone to sell it, that only brings more people with mouths that WILL TALK into the fray.

Best way to do it would be to steal a bunch of 24k gold and then melt it down and mold into bricks. You can sell gold pretty easily
