Expeditions are better vehicles and priced better.
I can’t say whether Expeditions are better or not. A ‘16/‘17 Expedition XLT is $30k or $10k less than a Tahoe. Is there that big of a difference between the two?

more intelligent than buying a new one....

I need a new car in a year or so, so I've started my slow year long shopping process. I need a big v8 suv. All both domestic and foreign are insanely expensive, so I started looking at used. I most want a Suburban (actually in the perfect world a Denali XL for the 6.2L). Looking used though, I am just more comfortable with a Sequoia or Lexus LX or GX. There seem to be too many hit or miss issues with the GMs, and I'd rather a Toyota with 30k miles than the GM.
Though I recently have started looking to the new Armada. A 2018 platinum AWD can be found in the low 40s. I have had a nissan before and liked it. So check those out too.
My fear of the GM is mostly related to the newer models with the shaking issues. I feel like a lot of the newer low mile ones are probably trade ins or early lease terminations due to some of those issues.

Just the fact that a stranger hasn’t jerked off in your backseat yet has to add a couple thousand worth to a new car.
In Brazos County, TX they charge extra for that.

The Expedition and Armada are better values as a used vehicle than their competitors. They are not better vehicles.
For whatever reason, the good deals on used Tahoes and Suburbans are more difficult to find. Toyota Sequioa too.

IMO this is the best value for a large, higher end SUV. They look great in that gunmetal grey color.

I think the Tahoe is the better vehicle. I'm not sure if it's $10K better.

At the $40k pricepoint, these are a much better buy than a Tahoe LT. Not exactly the same type of SUV, but close enough for most people.

Considering a 2015 or 2016 Tahoe.
That's not a 2 or 3 year old car/SUV
those would likely be a 4-5yr old vehicles.

So what’s changed? They still have a precipitous depreciation when driven off lot.
Supply and demand. Between the cash for clunkers and the flooding in LA and TX used care prices are sky high.
Heck I had a 2011 Tundra platinum 4X4 that I bought new. I drove it for 2.5yrs and had 29k+ miles on it.
I sold it for 5k less than I paid for it.
$2500 per year depreciation?
I'll take that any day.

If you’re gonna go “used” I’d take a look at their model drivers. Decided on one that had 5k miles on it and they took 5k off the price. It was still.

No disagree. Buy new. People who think cars lose half their value as soon as you drive off the lot haven’t purchased a car in 15 years. Let us know if you can find a 2 or 3 year old car that is actually a good price compared to going new.
Bought a 2015 F150, 2 years ago, with 9000 miles. Sticker was $17k. Ended up paying 10-12k after trade-ins and haggling. Will never buy new again.

Hate to tell you this but an F150 at this price point is not a highly sought after vehicle.
That's why it was so cheap.

Wife has a 2014 Tahoe with 95000 miles. No major issues just your typical stuff. Replaced door handle, of course all Chevy A/C buttons fade and normal A/C maintenance with a Chevy.

See, thing is, that's only typical with Chevy/GM. Of all my Nissan's, Honda's and Toyota's, I've never had to replace a door handle and the paint doesn't wipe off the buttons and the a/c doesn't need a bunch of maintenance (other than cabin filter changes). Ok, other than on my 12 year old Acura, some of the buttons no longer light up. after 12 years.

Well brand new F150's are $30k. Not sure where your data comes from about "not highly sought after". I was looking for an F150 at a reasonable price, with large back seats for the kids. I sought after it, and got it for about $10k.
