Prices aren't all that terrible though, 450k for a 2BR 2 BA down Coliseum is not bad.

I grew up in Gentilly Woods in the 1960's through the 1970's. It was sketchy then and yes, it's currently disgusting and dangerous.

There is a good chance we know each other.

They even rebuilt WCC Claiborne and renamed it. Lived on Metropolitan Dr.

Old money is only concentrated in certain areas of the city, one being the biggest concentration. You cannot make that generalization about most of the city though. Probably 99.7% is not a predominantly old money area

That hood started going down in the early 1970's. Still, most people kept up there houses and yards. Now, it's a dump. Even the city hasn't did anything with the streets in the past 15 years or so.

is there much of a middle class? seems to me in most black towns you have either the well off who own everything and then a big majority of welfare types.

Let's put it this way. When I drove thru my old hood, I felt like I was a double stuff Oreo. It was 180 different in the 1960's till early 1970's when outside people under the government started giving them money to buy in.

I've linked it here before

Not sure if it's still for sale, it's been on the market a couple of weeks.

my landlord went up 40% on rent, and got it filled within a couple days.

This is happening all across Uptown/LGD. My landlord wanted to sell her place so I started looking around. Several rentals were seeing a 30-40% increase in rent from last year's price with no improvements being made. The market is hot enough that a lot of owners just think those increases are warranted by the demand to rent here.

Luckily my landlord, after getting two full-asking-price offers two days after listing, decided not to sell. I re-signed my lease at the same price as last year. Next year is going to suck though.

The wife and I almost went to the open house, how was it? I know it's next to a school.

Layout is a little strange, somewhat typical of those houses though.

Not sure it is worth the price asked, but someone will probably pay it.

It's in a great location, do you have to walk through bedrooms to get to other places in the house? Are the bedrooms connected by a door or something weird like that?
