iPhone repair shop incompetence

Follow me...
My phone is doing the thing where it won't charge unless you wrap the cord around the phone. I figure it's time to clean the lint out of the charging port, so I take a toothpick and dig out said lint. Shine a light in there to confirm it's clean. Plug it back in and nothing, no response to the charger even wrapping it like before. I messed up the charging port. That's on me.
I take it to the iDoctors in Shreveport and he quickly diagnoses that I knocked loose or bent one of the gold teeth that connects with the charger and that it's a quick charging port swap and I'd be on my way in an hour. I go eat lunch and come back to my phone plugged in the wall. He says, "I got you all fixed up, as you can see it's charging." I pay and leave.
I go home and watch tv with it plugged in next to me. After 2 hours it says it's charging but has not increased the percentage a single percent. I know they are close to closing so I run back up there and tell the guy it's not working. A second worker in the back who can hear our conversation starts slow clapping.
Real professional.
Anyway, he takes it in the back and hooks it up to a diagnostic machine for a few minutes. He comes back out and says all your parts tested good and your battery is now at 100% through some other way of juicing the battery quickly. As he is putting it back together I hear an "Ooops". I ask what's up and he says, "See this 2 pronged thing under the home button? Unfortunately for me, as I was putting it back together I broke one of the prongs.
I'll swith it out for you free of charge." He fiddles with it for 15-20 minutes and again he says, "It's charging and you are good to go."
I use it that afternoon and as I get ready for bed I plug it in at 70%. I wake up the next morning to discover overnight while on charge it's down to 64%.
They are closed Sunday, so the only way to keep it from falling faster, I had to stay tethered to the wall anywhere I went.
I am waiting for them to open yesterday morning. I explain that the same issue is happening, and by the way the speaker is not working. Alarm only vibrated and youtube videos have no sound. An issue that was not an issue when I bought it in. He calls me yesterday afternoon and says, "I think we've figured it out. Some chip on your motherboard is bad and it's an extensive repair. Our manager is coming from Dallas tomorrow and he'll have the part. Our solderist can work on it as soon as we get the part. It'll be another $90."
Mind you, I've already paid for another part that didn't fix the problem.
I called this morning and told them not to work on it and have the manager call me when he gets in.
Just get a call and the guy working on it claims to be a manager and says, "Sorry, we couldn't get the part. I'll refund you everything but $20 for labor."
I told him I'm not paying $20 for labor on a job that wasn't completed. He farts around for a minute and agrees. Now my phone still doesn't work and has more issues than before like the speaker.
frick me. How do I get myself into this shite?

He knew his buddy fricked up the phone and got called out about it.
Furthermore, I suspect the kid is not even a manager like he told me. He's just trying to give me my money back and wipe his hands of it before his real manager finds out he messed up a customers phone.

That's how.
And I acknowledge that, but a charging port doesn't make the speaker not work anymore.

The reality is setting in. At least I'm getting my money back to put on a new one.

By jamming a toothpick into the charging port.

Did you try jamming a toothpick into the speaker?
Posted on 3/27/18 at 10:09 am to BilJ
Have you tried a different charger? If so, back it up and throw it in the lake.
Posted on 3/27/18 at 10:09 am to Clyde Tipton
I've somehow made it 17 years without having to get a phone repaired...how do people constantly have broken phones and cracked screens?
I broke one phone when I purposefully threw it against a brick wall. I bought another one....it was time anyway.

Good advice. Do the same with your trolling motor, boat, and yourself.

Ha ha. I've dug lint out of the charging port many times with no issue. I acknowledged it was my fault and paid to have it "fixed".
Now it's in worse shape than when I first bought it up there. Let me rant.

I'm not reading all that shite. Stop being poor and take it to an Apple store. You get what you pay for.
