Zuck covers his camera and mic.
Although I'm not sure how well tape can prohibit the mic from picking up sound.

I'd be fine with it, even welcome it, if it wasn't going to be data mined.
Why would you care about this? Seriously, I'm a DBA and understand a lot more than most about Databases, Data warehouses, and data mining principles.
For example, we currently use Walmart Pickup.
What could anyone glean from our patterns that would adversely affect my family? Are you worried that one day Insurance companies would demand access to your grocery habits to determine your health insurance premium? Something that far-fetched?

Meanwhile I've been seeing that LG commercial where the woman is gaga over a refrigerator that lets her surf the internet while she's cooking, and also keeps track of what food she's buying. No. fricking. Thanks.
If you've ever used anything other than cash to buy groceries, someone has ALREADY been keeping track of what you're buying. They don't need some technology in your house to do that. All the monitoring necessary is at the point of sale. They have an itemized list of what you purchased, when you purchased it and where you purchased it and a form of payment uniquely traceable to the buyer, and it was all in place by, what, 1990?

have had their data accessed by Cambridge Analytica, a data mining firm that worked for the Trump campaign and aimed to use the data to influence elections.
I see what they did there
. Gotta bash Emperor Trump every chance "they" get. The OT supports him 99.6% I just know it
.
I see what they did there

Today’s “far fetched” can be tomorrow’s reality.

I suggest you read 2 books:
10 Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now
21 Lessons for the 21st Century
Do you not think people are being exploited by computer algorithms? Do you still believe in free will when AI and machine learning can more accurately predict how you will behave in situations than you yourself can?
