4 minutes isn't that long.

You mean to tell me that in over 4 minutes that this guy was firing off rounds, Peterson never figured out where he was and thought he was outside the entire time?

Didn't he resign rather quickly? Wouldn't have done that if he was actually actively seeking the gunman.

Coral Springs police officers say that not one but several Broward County sheriff’s deputies waited outside the school building in Parkland, Florida, while the February 14 shooting was underway, according to reports from the Florida Sun Sentinel and CNN. At least three deputies held back from entering, police sources told the Sun Sentinel.
It has previously been reported that Scot Peterson, the deputy assigned to protect the school, waited outside the building instead of going in; Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said this week Peterson waited for four to six minutes even though he could “clearly” hear gunfire. Peterson resigned and subsequently retired after being suspended without pay.
According to CNN, Coral Springs police officers say they found Peterson and three other deputies outside the school with their pistols drawn and behind their vehicles. With direction from the Broward deputies, Coral Springs police entered the building where the shooter was. Two deputies who arrived later and an officer from Sunrise, Florida, joined Coral Springs police as they went into the building.

So, if you can link he is supposed to go straight into finding a shooter that is outside potentially off grounds, and not take a tactical position and assess, then please post it and I will say he acted incorrectly even on what his assumptions were
I can't link anything, but I did have dinner with a buddy of mine that teaches active shooter situations (for VA police), he said that it is taught, or at least should be taught, that you move to find and engage the shooter as soon as possible during active shooter situations
that is the current, modern training techniques that he teaches and is told to teach
and I haven't heard anything different from any other LEO either

I'm torn. While this makes sense in theory, you'd think he'd be getting less crap from the officers in Coral Springs PD if it actually played out like that. My guess is that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. But, as always, it's prudent to await all the details before making a judgment on this fellow's character.

It could have been 30 minutes... that guy wasn't going in. He was "seeking cover" and waiting for somebody else to show up and do something.

He was in front of the school, in front of the main entrance. The same entrance the other responding officers arrived at in their squad cars.
Correct

I'm sure it was quite confusing
that changes nothing though

dont piss on my leg and tell me it is raining Scot.

Read this part closely... WITH DIRECTION FROM BROWARD DEPUTIES. That clearly makes it sound like they knew the shooter was inside the building and was why Coral Springs PD immediately went into the building instead of looking around for this mystical outside shooter.

When a guy is in a building mowing people down, it's more than long enough to fugue out what's happening

If this is true, if he truly believed this, wouldnt taking "guard of the school" make more sense? It wouldnt exactly be an "active shooter" scenario here, as you dont think the shooter is on your schools property
This is all a hypothetical clearly.

So don't focus on that one part... look at what the Coral Springs officers are saying. Why would one PD trash another PD for no reason? They're saying that Broward County officers were hiding behind their cars when they arrived... and then directed Coral Springs officers to where the shooter was.

His confusion does not negate his failure

absolutely not

Or at least fricking try. Sitting behind your car "seeking cover and assessing" isn't going to do shite to save lives.

that changes nothing though
And the ironic part is, all these heroes jumping on the bandwagon to call him a pussy online dont even realize that
I for one, think you agree with this. You are simply pointing out what the actual training says to do

What part of he was no where close to the "outside" part of the school don't you understand?
You keep saying he thought he was outside, yet its reported they had their guns drawn pointing at the entrance right?
The football field is literally 100s of yards away from the front entrance where the Peterson was. So even if he thought he was "outside", Peterson was still 100s of yards away from the shooter. Inexcusable.

He. Never. Moved. The whole time the guy was killing kids. If he thought the shots were coming from outside..go find them. He failed. He. Never. Moved. Look, I get it, he was scared and didnt want to die, I get it, but his job was to protect those kids.....He damn well failed.
