I’d still rather live in Birmingham or New Orleans than Atlanta.
I could make arguments for either over Atlanta. Not very strong ones, but it just depends on what you value.

For some reason a bunch of people on here always conflate New Orleans black folks with Atlanta black folks. Atlanta doesn't have the same brain drain as New Orleans. Atlanta is the number one destination for young black professionals in the country. Young black professionals from New Orleans relocate to places like Atlanta for work, which creates the brain drain.
So many black folks from Atlanta aren't actually from the area. Black folks in New Orleans are way more likely to be 3rd or 4th or 8th generation New Orleans. Atlanta still has its hoods, just like any city. But if you go out to some places in south Fulton or Dekalb, you can feel like that John Travolta movie where the white people are poor and the black folks have the nice things.
Most of the posters here are never going to accept the fact that a black person driving a Mercedes is not always a drug dealer, athlete or rapper....she may very well be a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon or he may be an airline pilot. Those who immediately think "drug dealer/athlete/rapper" also are convinced that any black person driving a mercedes who is not one of those 3 is a DEI hire who was not qualified and displaced a white man....many of them will say as much on these forums, some have said as much in this thread...but they ain't racists.....thats an insult, they have a black friend....

One of best MB dealerships in the ATL area is owned by a black man.
He most assuredly isn't a drug dealer.

Makes sense if you take the TD Consensus opinion that every black person with a job has a job because of DEI and they were hired despite being unqualified at the expense of a qualified straight white man....

Dang bruh, you got a .gov job.
Why all the complaining?
Why all the complaining?

It's just neither scenario in reality - Atlanta is like Dallas used to be for white people.
Striver city. The person driving that Mercedes very likely isn't a drug dealer nor a pilot or doctor. They likely make 65k pushing paper at AT&T and live in an apartment and are super overleveraged. Which of course, is not unique to black people in Atlanta, but if outsiders want to understand the racial dynamic here it's an important piece. It's part of the reason there aren't clear boundaries between white/black areas/restaurants/shops like the rest of the country.

ATL is an interesting city. We go there for a big swim meet every March at Ga. Tech. It is wild how many single white folks, men and women, are just walking their dogs, jogging, and chilling in the downtown at past 9-10 p.m. It must be safe enough for people to do it. It surprised me. I didn't feel unsafe there personally. Still wouldn't live there, but it seemed better than NO for sure.

That's actually a problem.
When my wife goes into Lululemon and I go into the Tecovas store next door at the Lenox Mall area, and a blacked out Mercedes pulls up, there's an element of like okay are we about to witness the bi-monthly Lenox Mall gang shoot out or is the local OB/GYN just needing some new leggings?
It's what keeps you on your toes when visiting Mecca.

Replacement theory means all Americans.
Black Americans in urban areas will be displaced by immigrants. See Los Angeles.
Black percentage of population shrunk while Hispanic and Asian population grew
Also, doesn't help that black women account for like 31% of all abortions.

It's because they aren't from Atlanta. I went from Atlanta to Baton Rouge, and I was like holy frick. This is what they mean.
On the flip side, I would bring friends to Atlanta and they would mention how every nice car is being driven by a black person. We aren't in Baton Rouge anymore toto.

Are you black?
Come live in Baton Rouge. Black fatigue is real.
I was shielded by dealing with black people at my school and my Dad's black buddies that worked with him. Those are the minority of the black population. Middle class conservative blacks with two parent households.
Actually, go check 91tiger post about ghetto graduation. It's on full display.

Yeah. I mean, it's certainly mixed.
The unfortunate, politically incorrect reality is that your restaurant, shopping area, etc. becoming very attractive to black folks in Atlanta usually isn't good in the long term.
Obviously I don't have any interest in gate keeping middle class black people from shopping around me. But the problem with the malls, or all of Buckhead, or wherever, is that it becomes en vogue, and then before long you have carloads of people coming in from all over and loitering, leading to the inevitable.
Want to have shootings outside your restaurant in Atlanta within a year? Do a 3m luxury buildout with velvet lounge furniture and gold fixtures.
Want to never have shootings at your restaurant? Do a 3m buildout that looks like a dilapidated warehouse.

No I am not black. The metropolitan area I live in, Augusta Georgia, and the region, the CSRA, (Central Savannah River Area) is 56% black and 31% white. From what I can find the Baton Rouge Metro Area is 53.5% and 38.1% in comparison so the area I live is blacker than Baton Rouge and less white than Baton Rouge. The BR area is slightly larger overall. I grew up on the SW side of Atlanta which is still about the same ratio as Augusta and Baton Rouge....none of the north side for me. I do not doubt that "black fatigue" is real for some who are bent that way. The point is black folks exist...being tired of them (fatigued) is a you problem, not a them problem.....

Go watch that ghetto graduation video.
One of those clips is actually from a school in baton rouge.
No black people at my high school graduation in GA did that.
And there is nothing wrong with that, but it enforces stereotypes. And as tatum says, you as a black person then has to be okay with that.

Why?

Welcome to 2021. Also, the Asian and Hispanic population is growing significantly along with white population. Black population has been decreasing for 20 years now and only will continue. The black population in the city is very old while the other demographics are much younger.
