Actually I was talking to a very experienced surgeon who says the thinking is becoming just that, vents are doing more harm than good.

And this is a theory as to why that may be the case. If so, could drastically change outcomes. It may not have any validity, but I found it interesting.

That's a very stupid article if it can be summed up with that statement.
I read the first 5ish paragraphs and skimmed the rest and can conclude that the summary, which I thought was stupid, is smarter-sounding than the article.

It’s an interesting theory. He does a decent job of describing the virus abd vent, and hemoglobin. But did a terrible job describing the drug. And that’s not the mechanism by which we think it works.
However, this virus is something we’ve never seen before. Meaning it’s causing the medical community to rethink how we handle diseases. It’s causing things we wouldn’t expect.
And because of that premise, thinking “outside the box” is what we need. We do know it binds the beta 1 heme chain. Whether that causes disassociation, with resulting hypoxia, who knows. Something we need to study
