Just swapped the instrument cluster in a jaguar xf and the car wont start now. Is this something only a dealership can do? Any suggestions?

Looks like you fricked it up. Have it towed to a place that knows what they’re doing.

I think Birmingham, England may be the nearest mechanic who might know how to fix a Jaguar. Expensive tow.

Is this a fancy way to say you tried to hot wire a vehicle you were attempting to steal?

I would imagine it is tied into the computer system pretty good these days.

Not a plug and play swap.

Also, if you didn't disconnect your battery it may have shorted some things out.

Dealership needs to program in the keys. About an hour labor is a standard charge,

Guess I need to look into this more. Is the mileage counted on the cluster itself or is it read from the inputs to the cluster?

Already been to the dealership. frickers quoted me almost 4k to change it. Just bought one off ebay. Assumed it was a simple swap. The lcd is fried, might have to just open it up and see if the lcd can just be swapped. Anyone know?

Nobody else knows how to get them to leak oil just right.

You know that after you double down on stupid and go back to the dealership having fricked things up even worse, the next quote's going to be 8k, right?

It’s really not that bad a deal once you get it there. The dealership should understand folks do this, but the dash is linked to key code thus needing to be programmed. I’d assume when they do that it should just pick up the actual mileage etc from what’s stored.

what year is the car? Mileage is stored in the main ECU. Some instrument clusters need to be flashed with the proper firmware for your vehicle.

As opposed to honestly fricking with the mileage?
