You do realize a full on invasion of the Mainland of Japan would've resulted in far more civilian deaths right? Not to mention tremendous loss in military lives on both sides.
Something something Oliver stone's documentary said Russia is the real reason the war ended.

When discussing the bombs, I think the term "necessary evil" is most appropriate.

The kamakazis were soldiers. Yes, they used extreme tactics.
However, a-bombing two large cities and killing 200,000+ people is on an entirely different level. Nothing like that has ever happened to the United states.
Please inform me of something the Japanese did that was worse than what we did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Jesus have you ever picked up a book?
Take a trip to the WWII museum. In it you will find an exhibit with examples of the rifles given by the Japanese government to the populace specifically to use in the event of a US invasion. We wouldn't have been fighting just the army. We would've been fighting the entire country.
Your cell phone would be better used searching and reading about the history of the War in the Pacific instead of posting ignorant crap on here.

Bressus, please do me a favor and shake that ole' heroes hand for me and my kids. I very seldom get to meet these MEN, TRUE AMERICANS that fought WWII. As for the negas, why do you love here?! How? Idg a shite about where you've visited or what classes you've taken. How can you not comprehend what was at stake? What the Japaneese did and what they were prepared to do. In today's world your prob scared to death of terrorist groups such as ISIS but have heavy hearts for people who were = or worse when considering American lives. Our leaders were backed into a corner, grabber their jock and made a decision to end the killing of American men. They werent born with a rifle strapped to them. They were civilians as well up until they inked their names on that paper and gave their lives for yours.
God bless the men who kept us free.

And there are still those out there that think the US should not have used them.
Whatever?
Germany and Japan would have used the technology in a heartbeat and no telling what living in America would be like today.
With the way things are heading those nuts in Middle East may just be dumb enough to make the use of a weapon like that again necessary!

The second bombing was entirely unnecessary.
I agree... they should have been more forthcoming with their surrender.
In fact... Japan should have surrendered prior to the 1st bomb... They would have been in an much better position to negotiate terms.

ETA: And you should Google The Rape of Nanking since you appear to be in need of some education into the atrocities committed on civilians by the Japanese. It's just one example of many.

You have no concept of reality.

It's amazing how ignorant some people are to the WWII era atrocities systematically committed by Japan compared to Germany and Russia. At the least as horrible, if not more.

because it's easier to cry fowl and say how horrible a nation we are than opening up a fricking book and reading what actually happened

They were some sadistic bastards for sure. And their population thought the Emperor was divine. Religious fervor made them that much more fanatical, right down to the women and children. An invasion of the Japanese mainland would have killed millions more "innocent civilians."

And the Japanese denied them for ever
Unit 731 is a good example of how these got swept under the rug
quote:
Between 3,000 and 250,000[1] men, women, and children[2][3]—from which around 600 every year were provided by the Kempeitai[4]—died during the human experimentation conducted by Unit 731 at the camp based in Pingfang alone, which does not include victims from other medical experimentation sites, such as Unit 100.[5] Unit 731 veterans of Japan attest that most of the victims they experimented on were Chinese, Koreans and Mongolians.[6] Almost 70% of the victims who died in the Pingfang camp were Chinese, including both civilian and military.[7] Close to 30% of the victims were Russian.[8] Some others were South East Asians and Pacific Islanders, at the time colonies of the Empire of Japan, and a small number of Allied prisoners of war.[9] The unit received generous support from the Japanese government up to the end of the war in 1945. Instead of being tried for war crimes, the researchers involved in Unit 731 were given immunity in exchange for their data on human experimentation.[10] Some were arrested by Soviet forces and tried at the Khabarovsk War Crime Trials in 1949. Americans did not try the researchers so that the information and experience gained in bio-weapons could be co-opted into the U.S. biological warfare program.[11] On 6 May 1947, Douglas MacArthur, as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, wrote to Washington that "additional data, possibly some statements from Ishii probably can be obtained by informing Japanese involved that information will be retained in intelligence channels and will not be employed as 'War Crimes' evidence."[10] Victim accounts were then largely ignored or dismissed in the West as Communist propaganda.[12]

The fact that elements of the Japanese military tried to overthrow their beloved emperor when they found out he was going to surrender AFTER the second bombing proves what a totally ignorant fricking idiot you are.

The invasion of China and the rape of Nanking; Bataan Death March; systematic starvation and torture of POWs; enslavement of captured females as "comfort girls" for the Imperial troops.
Need more examples?
