LeBlanc is one of the world’s leading experts in hernia repairs and has helped design some of the meshes. He’s at our lady of the lake in Baton Rouge.

LeBlanc is great. Cook as previously mentioned is great. Allain is great. Tabor is great.

All are in BR and are either at OLOL or BRC.

Dr Stephen Gordon @ BR General FTW.

Also, would you do laparoscopic surgery or open surgery(traditional)?

Robot assisted laparoscopic surgery is the only way to go, unless you have had previous prostate surgery.

Don’t know if any surgeons around here (had both mine done in AL) but go with laparoscopic.

ETA: I called years after the fact to see what mesh they used and it wasn’t one of the ones that’ll make me rich :-( But I do occasionally still feel irritation so that’s relatively normal

I had a Hernia surgery 15 years ago on my right side and I used the traditional open surgery which used mesh. The recovery time was a long time and there was pain because of a much larger incision.

So, I was thinking that going the laparoscopic route, the pain and recovery time would be less, But there are only a few doctors who are qualified and experienced to do the procedure. That's why I posted this question and asked for opinions.

I'm undecided- lap or open for Hernia surgery. My surgeon only does open surgery which requires 6 weeks of recovery with 10lb lift restriction. I'm thinking I will go with lap for a quicker turnaround with another surgeon. What are your thoughts? Anymore recommendations for a Baton Rouge or Hammond surgeon?

John Morisson in New Orleans is great. Used to have both UMC and Touro clinics.

In essentially any case where laparoscopy is available, I would do it over open. For inguinal hernia, they're both pretty good, but I would have it done lap if given the choice.
