Well, podiatry has to be chosen ahead of time since a different school. I chose it for the variety of pathology treated, good mix of office and surgery, and relatively low stress (compared to some other specialties).

Doing P&A's (ingrown nail procedures) is one of my favorite things. It's quick, easy, and provides so much relief. I'd say I average around 3-4 of them a day

Dermatologists remove these as well, will need a few days of antibiotics to calm it down before removal. Definitely get the phenol so the nail doesn't grow back.

When I was in elementary school I had this exact procedure done to both sides of both my big toes (I had about 3 ingrown nails before my dad decided we were treating both toes to prevent more.)

It's a minor inconvenience, and yes the shots hurt but compared to the ingrown option, it's much much better.

20 years later and I've never had another one.

I did the same thing. the doctor shot my toe with an anesthetic, cut out most of the nail, and within a day or 2 the infection was gone.

I'm usually able to treat ingrowns myself by soaking my foot in epsom salt and doing my own surgery, but this one particular time got out of hand.

edit- I don't recall the shot hurting at all and the entire procedure lasted like 5 minutes.

I've cut it out once with a clean box cutter and once used a doctor.

Use a doctor. The initial numbing shot hurts the most, and it's actually fun to see them put some mile into cutting and removing. The acid doesn't make any noises though :(
