Stripping out volatile food and energy prices, core CPI rose 4.8% from a year ago and 0.2% on a monthly basis.

I will hereby strip out from my budget the necessary, but volatile costs of food and energy.

I have so much more money now!

Thanks Joe!

I hear that, but that's the way it's been done. So, comparing apples to apples makes sense.

I love it when they try to claim victory when inflation is now even higher than it was a year ago…. When that was generationally high inflation over the year prior.

“Hey guys, it’s getting more horrendous all the time but at a slower rate!”

Also, the reason core inflation is reported is because it is the part of inflation considered to be within the reach of monetary policy. Prices swings in food and energy are volatile and largely related to global weather conditions, natural disasters, geopolitical conflicts, etc. I'm not sure why anyone think it is deceitful for them to report core inflation. In this instance, it makes the overall inflation of 3% not seem as rosy.

When one of the core tenets of the administration is destroying our energy producing abilities, it is worth monitoring.

Also still fricking hilarious the galaxy brains here are commenting on how the Core CPI numbers only look as "good" as the do because it doesn't count food or energy.
