Indian Social Security Scam - Anyone Else Getting These Calls?

Just returned to the States after living abroad for a few years and got a new phone number; these guys have been calling me incessantly. They say they are from the Social Security Administration and that they need to verify suspicious activity on my account before asking for my SSN. I probably get 4/5 calls a day.
If their Indian accents didn't make it so obvious that it's a scam, I'm sure more people would fall for it. What can they do with my SSN? Sell it? It's not actually that difficult to get someone's SSN, with all the spillage from companies anymore.
Is there a way to keep these Indians from calling me?

I get one every other day. The other alternating day, I get calls about my warranty on my car expiring.

I curse them out, and they curse me out, and everyone hangs up happy!

Practice your stand up comedy routine on them. See who hangs up first

I just give them my last four, and they tend to get excited:
1
2
3
4
Which is then followed up by cursing and them hanging up.
They have stopped calling recently

I’m going to try my best Indian accent the next time they call me. Just repeat every single question back to them.

Stop answering the phone when the number of the caller is hidden, unknown, an 800 number, your own telephone number (often with your name), etc.
Get an answering machine. Leave the canned "please leave a message on it".
It took me some time to get my husband to stop answering crap calls. He didn't want to be rude. Often to a machine. But the fewer you answer, the fewer repeats you'll get.

quote:Just make sure not to say anything that could be used as an affirmative. A friend in the Philly area used to answer "OK" many times to unwanted calls, and he found that that phrase had been inserted in a change electric billing service for his house up there.
Just repeat every single question back to them.

Ask them to call you back because you're eating a medium rare porterhouse
