We all understand their point, but what most people don’t understand is just how fierce these people will fight to keep control.
And yes you are right, they are fighting harder to stop SG than they are fighting to make EBR better as witnessed by their silence as to how BRPD is decaying, their silence in the trash and garbage debacle, and their silence about the parish missing out on a 250 million dollar federal grant to improve drainage.
My point? BRAC is not about improving the region; they are about power and control.

JBE won EBR 68% to 32% on a 43% turnout (total of 119,225 votes).
Broome won EBR a year later 52-48% with a 39.6% turnout(115,058 votes)
Now don’t tell me that JBE didn’t get plenty of SG votes.

So if St. George does pass not only will a St. George transition team not be able to collect taxes to pay their bills, neither will East Baton Rouge. How stupid is EBR. They basically are going to punish themselves and keep funding out of their own budget in order to punish St. george if the voters approve it.

If anyone is surprised by this statement, they aren't paying attention.

2015 =/= 2019
In 2015, some people had this idea that JBE might be something of a moderate. That idea has long since died.

I guess he is a moderate if I ever saw one. He's fairly conservative socially but is big time liberal when it comes to taxes and social programs. If he was conservative with taxes, not possible but just a scenario, he'd win in a landslide come October.

Meh. He is pro-life and pro-gun, and I think that's who he truly is - I don't think he's just that way for political reasons.
But he also pushed Medicaid Expansion, higher min wage, and a number of other liberal social issues.

I don’t know enough about politics but is it normal for a governor to act like a dictator?
How can they decide what we can vote on?

People in Louisiana don't mind paying taxes it is just the product we are getting. If he would just fix some things he'd win in a landslide. Anyone with a pulse would win if they could just turn a few things around. It just seems to get worse here.

Not getting involved in the SG effort would reinforces that notion, but allying himself with Broome in the minds of EBR voters pushed him far to the left.
JBE has the black vote and hard core Dem vote locked up. He needs to get that moderate vote again.
Stopping SG doesn’t help him politically at all.

You’d be surprised at how many view the Chamber of Commerce, and the BR Foundation. They equate these groups to the PTA.

They either stay home or vote Edwards. They will vote Edwards.

It's all the things he's done the last 4 years that show he's no moderate, but a liberal, especially when it comes to finances and how to handle government.
Even if he stayed out of the SG effort, or better yet, supported it, wouldn't negate all the other lib things he has done over the past 4 years.
So, again, I don't think it would make a difference.
It's not what you or I wanted, but he made a smart political move here. Play to your base.
