So what should the folks in Thibodaux do before a larger hurricane visits them down the road? Do they upgrade to propane with 500 gallon tanks that look like an airplane's fuselage or do they demand their city to upgrade these antiquated lines?
The problem with relying on the city to upgrade their distribution lines is they will not upgrade based on a peak load when homes crank up their NG Generac generators because of the lack of revenue needed for the additional capital.
I would estimate that NG distribution systems are size 100,000 btus per hour per home. The typical heating value for one cubic feet of NG is 1020 btu per cubic foot.
So 100,000/1020 is 98 cubic feet of NG to each home per hour is the typical volume of gas used to size a NG distribution system.
To make it more confusing (lol) that volume is based on standard pressure and temperature, (14.7 psig and 60 degrees F per American Gas Association).
Now lets say you add a basic 22 kW Generac NG generator to your home. 22kW = 75067 btu/hr or 74 more cubic feet of NG from homes with a basic Generacs. (Not completely because you are probably not pulling 100% all the time.)
Maybe newer NG distribution systems are sized for these peak loads but I can see older systems where newer subdivision are cobbled on to existing systems just can't handle these peak loads.
Before I would buy a Generac home generator using natural gas I would make sure the distribution system can handle it. If your house is located close to the City Gate, you are likely good to go. But if you are located at the end of the distribution system, go propane, gas or diesel.
Heck, in my neighborhood people complain about their gas oven during Thanksgiving when every home has their gas ovens turned on at the same time.

These were actual residents of Thibodaux being interviewed the very next morning and this is exactly what they said when I made the OP you cantankerous, non comprehension retard. I'm still laughing at how I threw a ban bet your way and you weren't even man enough to accept the challenge. Spineless cowar
I haven't seen anyone quoted in any articles or any videos. Nor has it made local news or even regional state news. Lots of talk about issues with supply but nowhere the city intentionally shutting stuff down which is what you stated was happening in your op.
Unlike you, i just want peoples generators to work which is why i initially answered. i don't care about your gay arse ban bet, who fricking cares? are you a child? i want people to have working generators. Nothing in your op made it sound like you heard someone say something. you stated the city was matter of factly shutting peoples gas off which isn't productive at all during an outage and additionally when you have zero first hand knowledge. .
Take your L and move on.

There you go again with claiming these were rumors and hearsay. These were actual residents of Thibodaux being interviewed the very next morning and this is exactly what they said when I made the OP you cantankerous,

Hearsay
noun
information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate; rumor.
Sounds exactly like hearsay to me.

The article shows I didn't just make up the issue of NG standby gens not working which was why I called his shite out. My OP was from another news station (WBRZ) sending someone out in the field interviewing residents of Thibodaux in real time and they (the actual homeowners being interviewed) suggested it was from the city of Thibodaux cutting off the flow because they said it happened before in Ida...but were pissed that it happened again for a much smaller storm.
You're still too stupid to recognize how and why your original post was shite.
Look at what you said, with no links or anything, just you starting a rumor.

Talk about the sum of all fears. You pay $15k plus for these things and have to get them maintained every couple of months in perpetuity, but then when a Cat 1 comes along the city of Thibodaux throttles back the natural gas supply and you don't have enough juice to run these standby generators.
and YOU say here the city is throttling back the gas supply.
You're a fricking retard who started a stupid arse thread.
And you sound like a 10 year old whiny little bitch kid with your "ban bet" shite.
You want to start a thread about somethign like this, have some type of proof behind it. Don't come back 4 pages later and say "oh well i saw on tv some idiot residents of thibodaux that think the city is throttling back the gas supply" (which makes no fricking sense b/c the city isn't in charge of the gas suppliers).
might help as well if you knew how to spell the name of the city as well dumbass.

Imagine paying 15k for an air cooler generator in a plastic box lol….. all that college and you still ain’t smart enough to do your homework. You could literally buy a 50k for that price and run a couple houses . Don’t tell me you can’t cause they have a pile of diesel generators that have a 100% duty cycle on market place as we speak.

I agree that most people don’t need a whole home generator. Most people like myself just need a portable generator to keep my refrigerator and two freezers running and one small window A/C unit for our bedroom.
Agree. I’ve actually added an 1800 watt/2400 surge solar “generator” (<$600) to the mix that can pretty run much everything you’ve listed (and run gas heater in winter) since none of them are going to pull full wattage at the same time. Can get something much more powerful for less than 2k. Beauty of this is you can use it overnight for fridge/freezer and keep the noise down. Use the larger gas generator during the day to run things and charge the solar. The solar is also handy for quick outages to just run some lights, microwave etc.

What size is your tank?

They have every right to run their generators.
