In T-Ball, Why Do They Make The Kids Get In A Line In The Field?

This morning I went see my nephew play t-ball. This is his second year. It's t-ball, its no big deal, but it seems like the goal should be to at least teach the fundamentals. WIth that said, my nephew's team batted first and the little team they were playing took the field. All the kids lined up behind the pitcher's mound. The point of it, I assume, is to allow each kid to field the ball. Then the last time my nephew's team last took the field, they did the same thing.

Like, I said, it's t-ball, no big deal, but I never seen them do this before and was wondering if that is a "preferred approach" now?

Trying to indoctrinate kids into gayness at a early age.

It gives every parent an opportunity to berate their own kid in front of everyone when they don't exactly field the ball perfectly as if they play for the New York Yankees.

They're lined up behind the pitcher? What happens when a kid lays one down the 3rd baseline?

It's because they're communists.

realistically it's probably because none of those little guys are strong enough to hit it much past the pitchers mound. This gets the kids close enough to learn how to field it and throw it to first.

It's the new infield shift kids are using these days. It's called "The Wall." Highly effective at the t ball level.

I have my travel t-ball team wearing sharpened spikes. We play 57 weekends a year and typically send 94% of our players to the major leagues.

I've see this done and think it's absolutely stupid and does nothing to teach the kids how to actually play the different positions.

Because it's the progressive neutering of damn near everything in this country and the effects of the trophy for everything generation.

My kids got a ribbon for going to a birthday party the other day.

I made them throw it away. I explained to them that an award for something that you didn't earn is worthless.

And that if everyone gets it it's pretty much the same as no one getting it.

I get that. At that age, when they are in the field, they are all lolly-dicking around anyway. At least when they are in the line, the kid gets the ball and throws it the first base.. So I can see that it teaches them more about fielding the ball.

Off a tee?

I'd kinda like to see that.

Hah - in Cajun, "T-Ball" means "Little Ball" - totally works and I just got it.

So it teaches them all to be 2nd basemen?
