Classic. Imagine how much better that movie would've been with Richard Pryor as the lead. He and Wilder were a great duo

Nope. I like Pryor but Blazing Saddles was cast perfectly. Look at the contrast between then and now with the comedy. You could never make those jokes in today's environment.

Cleavon nailed it perfectly - with just the right touch of sophisticated and street. While I consider Richard Pryor and George Carlin revolutionary figures for modern stand up, Pryor could not quite have nailed the balance as well as Little did, at least IMHO.

And who knows what condition he would have been in day-to-day? However, Wilder and Pryor's chemistry was outstanding in their films together, particularly Silver Streak and Stir Crazy. Yesterday, I watched an interview with Wilder from 2013, I guess before the Alzheimer's did much damage, and he all but said that Richard was fine (clean) for Silver Streak and fricked up for Stir Crazy. Although it still works on screen, the "clean" Pryor was clearly an easier person to work with clean and sober (no surprise). He was clean again by the time of See No Evil, Hear No Evil, according to Wilder.

You must mean Silver Streak, Ace.
I remember watching that movie at The Galleria in Houston. Good stuff.

That was one of the main reasons Pryor didn't get the role. No one knew what mental state he was going to be in. I agree Cleavon did a fantastic job. Would've been interesting to see Pryor's take on the character

I think my favorite part of that amazing movie is in that scene when he's rubbing Bart's hand and then flips it over and says "See, it's coming off.."

They riffed on that in Silver Streak where they made Gene black.
