Isn't there some drama going on at Fatima right now?
yes. I honestly don't know what happened specifically, but a LOT of parents are trying to get the administrator replaced. it could be a culmination of things over the years. I personally can't complain. my kids had good experiences there
I'd imagine you'll eventually have more to complain about other than just admissions regardless of what school you choose, but either Pius or Cathedral are good Catholic options. Fatima will get their issues ironed out eventually. the community needs all three of these schools to support the volume of students.

I’m not sure what you are getting at. I’m not sure how going to a public school made me dumber or a worse person

You said “imagine living in any state and having the means to send your kid to private and choosing not to.” That is what I responded to. You didn’t say anything about “all things equal”. My point was that there are places in which it makes sense to send your kids to public school.

No one is saying there isn't some great public schools across the country with great programs. No one is saying there isn't some amazingly successful people that are product of public schools.
We talking average kid, average public school, etc., etc.. no one cares about an anecdotal one off.
But more public schools than not will have your child sitting in a class with children that are product of ghetto or trailer park trash that don't give a shite about their child's education and probably couldn't spell it. That's the facts.

Hanson Memorial High School in Franklin.
Now why would anyone in their right mind (not stuck in Franklin, Centerville, Charenton, and Baldwin) do that?

No, it obviously depends on your job, but I don't really have to deal with the generation population on a day to day basis. And I try to limit it as much as possible by living in a nice neighborhood, shopping in "nicer" stores, etc...

Of course the small population that has the access to send their child to a top tier public school, absolutely should. But the other 85% of the population should do what they can to avoid sending their child to a public school

Go look at the original post I responded to.

If you went to public school, graduated from a 4 year university, and are a successful individual, you are an outlier.
The person you are responding to also went to a public school. I also went to a public school. You can't acknowledge how going to a private school may have contributed to an even better outcome for you?

My point is that I don’t think going to a public schools is as bad as y’all are making it out to be in a lot of places.
quote:I’m not cherry picking nearly as much as you think I am. I grew up in Shreveport. That majority of people in the Shreveport/Bossier area go to public schools and they are arguably better than the private schools. The vast majority of people from there would rather go to one of the public schools as opposed to one of the few private schools. That’s just one place.
He isn't going to be getting that at the couple phenomenal cherry-picked public schools you're referring to.

I don’t group myself in with neighborhood kids that went to my school. I had a completely different life and upbringing than many of them. I think that’s a major factor.

Not really. I think I’m generally a pretty good person. I know a lot of shite heads that went to private schools their whole lives. Do you have any specific examples of things that I might need to think about? Like an example of a way that I would be a better person by going to private schools?

I'm not saying that you'd be a better person, but it's possible that you could've had a better outcome. Honestly, I don't know if I would, but the statistics say that you're likely to have a better outcome if you go to a private school vs a public school.

Another factor is the political nonsense that goes on in public schools. I know a person who has influence on what is taught in public schools and that is one of the main reasons why I'd never send my kids to public. If you are a democrat, I can see this not mattering to you.
Posted on 3/26/25 at 3:39 pm to Epic Cajun
I went to one of the public high schools that is highly regarded on here and a good 50% of the student body were dumb, trashy kids. Many did a lot of drugs and they absolutely pull some of the “better” kids down with them. If I have kids and could afford it, I’d send them to catholic school.

Sure but I think the statistics are skewed. For example, my upbringing is much more similar to the average private school kid that you are imagining than the average neighborhood kid that might have gone to my school. However, I would be grouped into the public school statistic, even though I’m much more similar to the private school kids. I think the life and upbringing have much more to do with those statistics rather than simply saying public or private.

The idea that private school kids in br or Nola would be totally sheltered is very funny
Might be relevant in a small town in the Midwest or something like that though

I’m a rebublican. And again, I’m not saying it’s smart to just send your kid to any public school. It’s not. I was simply responding to someone who said he can’t imagine ever in any city/state sending their kid to a public school when they can afford a private school. I simply think there are many places around the country in which sending you kid to public school makes total sense.

Avoid Mcgehee unless you want yoor daughter indoctrinated at a school with fancy buiildings in front and substandard facilities in the back.

Academically speaking I'll say Lake Castle in Madisonville has to be at the top.
PK through 8th grade.
There isn't alot of kids only 4 classes per grade
Kids are tested and ranked into the classes so the "A" class is more advanced then the "B" and so on. No nonsense approach if you are a behavior problem you are gone. There are no exceptions.
I have 2 there now and 2 that graduated.
The 2 grads got 25 and 28 respectively on the ACT as an 8th graders. The 2 younger ones are in the "A" class in different grades.
