Monticello used to be a riot, but haven't been there in years. They had black nativity scenes, black Santa's and a huge Disney character display.

You mean the Messenger's? That was in Red Oaks and they moved to Denham Springs how long ago?

Last time I was in LA in December I drove out to their DS house. Was awesome seeing all the older displays from when I went as a kid.

Last year, I spotted some of those old Monticello lights in Manchac Plantations off Old Perkins in Prairieville. I guess that's where the family ended up after the white flight out of Monticello.

Clyde Messenger is living in Pigeon Forge, TN now. His son still puts up the display at a house near North Park in Denham Springs. They're actually busy putting up the lights this weekend. Drive north on Eden Park Road, and you'll see the crowd.

If you go out there, check out the Woodlands neighborhood and find the guy with over 100 inflatables in his yard.

Daryl Clark usually puts up a good display to music off Elliot Road, but I think he's taking a break this year while building his new house.

If you like the computerized lights set to music, the best one in the area is the house on Sullivan Road in Central. It's directly across from the new middle school. Amazing display.

There's the "old black lady lights" on Airline just before the state fairgrounds. The old lady puts out 1000's of lights and old school light ups each year. People from all over donate lights to her. Just park in the driveway and let the kids run in the yard for a while. She's a wonderful old woman who will talk your ears off.

Port Allen puts on a good display that you can drive through with your car. It's on the road that runs between the Lobdell Exit and Hwy 1 a block off the interstate. Just take the Lovell exit and turn right at the McDonald's.

If you want to drive to NOLA, City Park puts on an amazing display. You can also catch Lafrenier Park off David Drive in Metairie, and the crazy neighborhood off Power Blvd. And Esplanade where nearly every house is over the top decorated.
