Fate. It could have dropped one on their house.

You do realize that it is statistically better for a tornado to drop on randomly scattered houses in a neighborhood than to drop on a school with a huge cluster of children inside?

it's a guessing game, better to be safe than sorry.

What do you stats say about kids home alone while their parents work vs kids under supervision at school?

And yes, I believe he (or many like him) would be the first to say how dare they not close things down if anything happened

I seriously doubt it.

Don’t have every single variable available to me, but there’s a pretty big advantage to scattering the population away from an EF-5 tornado rather than clustering everyone in one place.

The child would have to be left alone for hours unsupervised for the dangers of being unsupervised to outweigh the immediate threat during a Tornado outbreak.

This. My kid’s school has had so many closures, they’re already out of storm days. Most of which ended up being nowhere near as bad as predicted or even **gasp** sunny days.

Lets be honest, its not about protecting the kids

Its about protecting the school from liability

Plus teachers unions push for any excuse to cancel school and get paid to stay home

My only take away from this thread is someone named Jennifer C is a smoke show and no last name was shared and not the 1st picture.

I don’t mean a tornado hitting a home vs school. Is a child more likely to be injured in any way home alone for 8 hours or at school for 8 hours during a cold front?

It’s not happening 3-4 times a year for severe weather.

This is the first time my kids have been sent home from school for weather since hurricane Ida. Everyone remembers that bust.

When I was a kid I loved these days when they shut schools down and no bad weather came. Why rob the children of this generation of that occasional day of joy?

I see your point if it’s 8 hours, but do parents not organize contacts with grandparents and close friends to pick up little kids from school when absolutely necessary, anymore?

I remember spending weather days at grandparents and close family friends when my parents couldn’t get off work.

Not sure what y’all got in Louisiana but the storm that went through Houston early this morning was the most intense storm I’ve ever witnessed. And I’ve rode through many significant hurricanes.

Wind, rain, hail, constant lightening for 20-30 minutes. The sky was a strobe light. Thunder was crazy. It produced a leak in my roof that Harvey failed to cause.

Bruh, it wasn’t that bad. It was a thunderstorm. I laughed at all the stay at home PTO moms on the schools FB page at 7:00 this morning. OMG, ITS HAILING I CANT BELIEVE THEY HAVENT CANCELLED SCHOOL!!!

I left the carpool line at 7:30, and it had stopped raining 10 minutes earlier…
