i think the main issue you (and others) have is that you analyze to be something it will never be
its a boutique city, with good weather, a great restaurant/bar scene, nice parks, weekly festivals/activities, which can be biked in under 20 minutes from one end to the next, and there are a lot of single people.
i dont even drink that much, but its quite stupid to say thats the only thing enjoyable out the city

i can say the same thing about a lot of the competition discussed. not Houston but certainly Austin
and in Austin, you avoid epic levels of crime while having all of those options

those cities have huge populations/industries
one of the reasons i personally enjoy nola is because it does not have that cookie cutter feel.

I have lived in both and all things being equal (friends, family, job) the crime is the only thing that would make me think about picking Austin over NOLA

ive spent a lot of time in austin (friends live there)
i like the outdoors scene compared to nola but yea, its a totally different animal

They are very different places

No but you could bike from 51st street to SoCo fairly painlessly (not in July or August)
