If when you honestly want to you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic.

If you are being serious pick up a copy of Alcoholics Anonymous and read from The Doctor's Opinion to page 43 and if you find you're reading about yourself then make some meetings and find someone there who knows the book and ask him for help.

Not trying to be a dick, but statistically he has the same chance of recovery at both.

If you think you have a problem, see a psychiatrist, not a bunch of other people with similar problems.

Destroying your career, every relationship you have, and your health isnt cheap at all.

Rehab costs peanuts in comparison

This is pretty good advice. Family member of mine has an alcohol problem, but there are anxiety/PTSD type things that are the bigger issue. Triple combo of psychiatrist for meds, therapist for more frequent interaction, plus AA sponsor is keeping her together.

mate, seriously get some high quality weed and partake 2-3 times per week. Get into jazz, take your pooch for walks, watch documentaries. Way better than alcohol.

I can support this but I'd take anything from a "sponsor" with a grain of salt. Pass it by your therapist before you put any weight into their advice. One of the biggest problems with the twelve step snake oil is putting another addict into a position of authority without any real training on the psychological issues.

Spoken like a non alcoholic who has never read the AA Big Book, which tells you to seek psychological help if needed.

If your sponsor doesn't follow the AA Big Book get a different sponsor.

BTW a sponsor isn't in a position of authority, their job is to get you through the steps nothing more, nothing less.

You damn sure need to work on that. You owe it to yourself and anyone close to yourself to not piss your one life down the drain.

Good luck sir.

Alcoholics are ridiculous. How could anyone pick such a shitty drug to be addicted to?

Nice try at condescension there, chief. But I've read it.

In passing sure, but for every one line about it, there's forty about faith and finding power through others with your affliction.

Yeah just no to this. Maybe on paper but in practice this isn't even remotely true.

It's a dangerous program that gets way too much endorsement from popular society and the legal system.
