If there are enough gasoline fumes in the air to ignite then you wouldn't be able to breathe in that area.

I never said they were. But there are in the manifold, and exhaust pipe. Then there are all kinds of carbon goodies in and around the cat, capable of creating a spark for the fumes.

Are you actually trying to tell me that it is not possible for there to be flames from the exhaust stroke in the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe? If so, whatever. I've seen the flames come directly out of the head, and through manifolds out into the exhaust pipe. Maybe you're having trouble differentiating between exhaust pipe, and tailpipe? It's exhaust pipe before the muffler, tailpipe after. At least that's the way I was taught.

Yes flames come out of the exhaust head, I've seen it personally when the exhaust manifold was removed. But these flames only come out a few inches and cannot make their way all the way down the exhaust system, through the cat converter/muffler and out the tailpipe.
It can backfire if a cylinder is misfiring and then it ignites in the exhaust but that's really really rare.
But this situation can happen whether you are running your car or not. Your car is running when you pull up, your car is running when you leave. A puddle of gas on the ground is a dangerous situation anyway regardless of whether the car is on during pumping.
There aren't enough fumes coming out of the tank during refueling to ignite from anything short of holding a cigarette lighter close to the tank. Most modern gas caps are on the side and the exhaust is on the back of the car.
Again, a person would have trouble breathing in an area with enough fumes to ignite. Even in NASCAR where they are dumping puddles of gas on the ground and down the side of the car while they are running, fires are very rare.

Now if you can find a video or a pic of a carbon goody around a cat that is creating sparks, I will gladly bow down in shame.

And they do not get clogged with carbon goodies. They get clogged from excess raw fuel causing the material to melt.

I've explained it to you nine different ways.
At the current moment, your argument is that a car exhaust can leak, have flames or sparks pour out of said leak, and ignite gasoline vapors.
So let's say a perfect storm of events happen. The car is running filthy rich. It is also mistimed thereby allowing excess fuel to be ignited in significant amounts in the exhaust system.
It is a veritable flame thrower on wheels.
I also decided to have a gasoline fight at the gas station in Louisiana in August. The fuel has vaporized. There are vapors everywhere.
Everyone at the gas station is wearing a gas mask ehile pumping fuel. The vapors are that thick.
Does leaving your car running increase the likely hood of a fire in this specific scenario?
NO. Because as you were driving up to the pump you killed everyone.
If the perfect storm happens in which a leaking exhaust in a mistimed, rich running car enters a station with toxic levels of fuel vapor.... Even if all of that happens, it doesnt make a single god fanned bit of difference that the car is running as you fill up.

Obviously the scenario is rare, but the facts remain. As has been seen a hundred times with static electricity, the fumes from the gas are the fuel, all that is needed is a spark. If you provide the spark near the nozzle, you have a fire. In a fuel spill scenario, the exhaust from the car can provide the spark.
