Part of being a professional is always knowing your limits and not letting recreational activity effect your ability to perform your job function. You sound like someone who needs to grow up.

I had this talk with one of my younger employees and reminded him that he was no longer in college.

When I was a 1st year professional I was given some great advice by my mentor about being hungover at work. It was "never let them see you sweat".

If it doesn't affect your work or the people around it, I could give two shites less what you do away from the workplace.

It's July 5th. The day after the 4th should be the most acceptable day of the year to be hungover on. Sure if he does this semi-regularly this would be an issue, but give him a break on the 5th.

No excuse. If you want to act without consequence, use a vacation day for the 5th. Plan for it. Failing to plan is planning to fail. If you want to be a responsible professional then make reasonable decisions and show up on the 5th ready and eager to contribute.

Professionals do not show up in zombie mode so they don't have to use a free vacation day.

To be fair, I am consciously planning on using a vacation day for after the election this year. I know there's really no excuse for that one though.

I bet you're a fricking blast to kick it with. Did you used to remind the teacher in school to give homework too?

At my age you just don't really see any upside in waking up feeling like that.
