The real irony is that many of the bars in New Orleans were pushing for the ban so they would all be on the same level.

Has probably saved them an assload of money when it comes to their HVAC systems too.

What's crazy is that it's a product that makes hundreds of millions of dollars for private companies and kills tens of thousands, but because it was so engrained in our culture people will go to bat for it.

And before people say, but booze is bad too! Keep in mind that me drinking doesn't give you cirrhosis.

more people don't smoke than does. No one wants to smell like smoke, have their clothes smell like smoke & get lung cancer. Get your lazy arse outside if you want to smoke.

Nah, you're way off base. Private property rights are the issue, not smoking.

But statists don't give a shite about property rights.

Agreed, if that is what the bar owner wants.

But that's the point. There are already thousands of rules businesses have to follow, which govern what they can or cannot do. It's not like this is the first.

And yet you can't seem to offer an explanation as to why this is unreasonable?

Irrelevant. We have too many rules, so your argument is we need to add more?

Weird.

See my post above about the number of rules businesses already have to follow. This is one of them.

Completely relevant.

Your argument is that we have too many rules so no matter how much sense one makes we shouldn't add another.

I understand the freedom and private property rights argument that people are making in this thread and I would support it being a limited government conservative but I just can't give two diddly shits about smoking enough to oppose these bans as smoking is trashy and a great exercise in darwinism to see who's still stupid enough to smoke.

I always think the current year argument is pretty stupid but not for smoking as if you're still smoking in 2019 with all of the information available about the damage from smoking and the negative stigma attached to it, you're an absolute idiot and trashy as frick.

Drinking doesn't make you smell and doesn't negatively affect others around you.

You have a much easier time of quitting drinking.

It doesn't make you cough like shite and have extreme difficulty breathing.

The majority of our society feels this is the right move and elected people who implemented it.

As a counterpoint many of you are coming off like this is the first and only law they have to follow, which is ridiculous. Smoking is a negative activity that affects others...that's why it's in the crosshairs. It's that simple, and yes, I do get your position. Society at large has shifted, for better or worse.

This absolutely does not explain why it's unreasonable for people who don't want to be around smokers to simply frequent an establishment that is smoke free.

Not even close.

See my post about how this is where society has evolved to. It's the position whether anyone agrees with it or not.

The attendees of Al Anon, families of drunk driving victims, and the poor bastard who has to clean the restrooms at bars beg to differ.
