Back when Jindal was governor, CMS has a program where they’d fund states’ Medicare/medicaid audits. The vendor begged Louisiana to audit ER visits for illegals, but the state declined.
After JBE took over LDH sent a memo to hospitals that permitted the removal of demographic questions which rendered any future audit approvals useless.

25M for Medicaid, but the government reimburses the hospitals for the illegals without medicaid also. So the 121M number was correct. It has been well known for many many years that the illegals are encouraged by the Dems to use hospital emergency rooms as Stat care clinics. In California especially, but in other states as well, illegals are taught/encouraged to call for an ambulance for ANY medical need.... from a stubbed toe to a tummy ache.
Why do you think illegals get counted in the census? You can question the 1000 patients a day number for Texas, but if there's approx 1,000,000 illegals in Los Angeles county alone, how many do you think Texas has as a state? They've practically taken over Houston (500,000), Dallas (500,000), San Antonio (80,000), and El Paso (52,000).
A quick Google AI search estimates 1.9 million illegals are in Texas.....so 1000 hospital visits a day when they ONLY go to emergency rooms is VERY likely.

I feel like I’m missing something. That chart doesn’t say anything about Medicare or Medicaid paying for the incurred costs. Just that the costs of healthcare services provided to illegal immigrants total $121M. We know this doesn’t happen, but in principle, if these were all paid in cash, wouldn’t the chart still show $121M in costs?

They can not get Medicare or Medicaid period. They don’t have SSN numbers unless they are fake, if we are paying that we are idiots. But I have a buddy who was an immigration attorney and he has said it’s too risky for illegals. But…..
However, if their kids weee born here they are US Citizens they can get benefits from them like snap, Medicaid insurance etc from that.

Also, I agree no poor and few working class people, illegals or not pay full hospital bills unless they have health insurance period.
So if you want to deport everyone that goes to ER for medical care, and doesn’t pay the full bill that’s fine with me but the vast majority of those are white working class people. And the vast majority of personal bankruptcies are related to inability to pay medical bills as they have been for decades.
That’s a different problem.
The money they are getting from Medicaid is from the anchor baby situation and it is a big problem.
So if you want to deport everyone that goes to ER for medical care, and doesn’t pay the full bill that’s fine with me but the vast majority of those are white working class people. And the vast majority of personal bankruptcies are related to inability to pay medical bills as they have been for decades.
