Ilha Grande, Brazil - HGG's trip review

Small island off the coast of Rio sits this little gem. I had some co-workers take me there otherwise I would have never known about it. We all took a van taxi down south to the ferry dock where only so many trips are made per day, so get there EARLY.
Here is the port as we were arriving, nothing big or fancy. There is only 1 small town with a church, a few pousadas (cottages), a few tour guides and a few restaurants. VERY small, it was awesome.
My co-workers had been before, so they negotiated (in Portuguese of course) for a boat to take us to the backside of the island's beaches, which saved us about 2 hours of walking...we only had 1 day there so we didn't want to burn too many hours hiking. But we did hike a bit through the mountains, it was beautiful and peaceful. Monkeys everywhere.
Here are pics from the various beaches, some are only reachable by boat and you have to swim ashore. it was KICK arse!

Oil and gas major....mostly gas for now, for obvious reasons.

i've been to rio a few times and I've heard about this island. Pretty cool pics dude.

The best thing about it was the extremely low density of people. They only allow a certain number of people per day to go over there, so it's pretty much like you have the whole island to yourself. It is undoubtedly the most perfect place I have ever visited to just get away and chill.

You can't drop a "not as pretty as" line without pics. Sorry I don't make the rules.

I spent 8 months in Angra but didn't get a chance to go see the island. That area is much nicer than Rio and a lot quieter. Also gets very hot and muggy in the summer and rains everyday in the winter.
