Where'd you live? I grew up in Village St George, since 75. My parents moved into the first filing of VSG in 1969 or 70.
I remember when that stretch of Siegen between 10 and Airline was nothing but pasture besides the Holiday Inn and Honore's Nursery.
Then came McDonalds, KMart, Waffle House, etc.
I believe the little development was called the Natchez trace? It was fairly new at the time, ton of nice but cookie cutter homes, hoa, etc.
At the time, i think the only thing between interstate and airline was McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and a real small shopping center next to the interstate - towards airline there were things here and there, but the only thing I really remember was the gun store. Everything else seemed to be random mom and pop shops that I never paid attention to. Lived there ‘98-‘99 school year.

True story hijack: ihop college drive location
Shortly after the storm I had some young teenager put a little .22 pistol to my stomach trying to rob me. I was pretty lit at the time and gave zero fricks so told the dude If he shoots me with that pea shooter I’ll beat the frick out of him. So he started walking off and noticed my pussy arse friend sitting in the car and jumped into the car and put the pistol to my buddies head. My buddy started crying pleading for his life and told me ‘just please give him what he wants’... so I got back in the drivers seat and threw the money out of the window so he had to get out the car to get it. And I drove off

Dude. Your neighborhood destroyed our favorite tract of woods. We built forts and trails all through there in the 80s. As teens we played Capture the Flag and had BB gun wars there.
And Siegen didn't have a bridge over the tracks and Ward Creek yet(that was finished in 1994)
By the time you lived there, The UA Theater, Race Trac(I got beat up at the construction site for it in 1991), Kmart, Industriplex, Team Honda, all that was there in 1998.
But you're right about the next boom. That came about 2002-2004.
Target, the strip malls, Siegen Village Apts, etc went up. As well as another expansion of Siegen right there from 3 lanes to 5(now it's 7).

Circle K on Siegen
I used to go to that CCs a lot until the amount of homeless tweakers hanging out there got to be too uncomfortable.
