he was a friendly snake, I named him Elmo, he’d always come out and watch me work in the yard, never got too close but would follow me around
We never named him, but we had a strong mutual understanding. He keeps the property clear of rodents and don't try to eat the kids and my did wouldn't decapitate him with the garden hoe.

It's a cat. They don't know their place in the pecking order.

My two half feral cats won't come in and won't let me catch them. All I can do is keep the garage cracked and they have a thick bed to lay in. They cuddle together.
I'm thinking of buying some hand warmers and putting them under their bed but I'm afraid they will know something is different and run somewhere else. i put a nice little heater in there last year and they disappeared till I took it out 2 days later.

You might like this. I see them advertised on YouTube a lot. Search “Stray Cat Shelter”:

I love watching the videos of huskies and St. Bernards, etc. where they play in the snow and refuse to come in. They curl up in a ball right in the middle of it and go to sleep like it's the happiest they've ever been.
I have a sheepdog. We just got done with our morning walk. It is 4 degrees here (-4 with windchill) in central Oklahoma.
After the walk we played ball for 15 minutes. He wouldn't quit. I finally had to quit because my fingers were freezing.
He wouldn't come inside. I finally coaxed him in by fixing him a bowl of food. He ate it all and is now back outside.
This is me and him, taken about a week ago. His name is Bernie.

There is a feral cat that I feed on my back patio, but I think it hunkers down under my neighbor's shed. I bought a little shelter for it a week ago, and put it next to the food and water, but it won't go in there.
